Introducing the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird…
Back in January of 1966 the United States Air Force added the technologically advanced, high altitude (over 80,000 ft), high speed (over 2,200mph), strategic reconnaissance aircraft by Lockheed to their inventory. The SR-71, dubbed the “Blackbird”, succeeded the legendary U2 and went on to become a legend of it’s own right.
The footage (and some audio) you see in this video is from the 1984 television series “Call to Glory” with Graig T. Nelson and Elisabeth Shue which depicted the 4200th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing in the 1960s.

Nice video. The BlackBird ( family ) of aircraft are probably among the greatest engendered planes of all time. Maybe 2nd to the Wright Flyer ; which without there would be no other planes. A lot of the technology and engineering that made the BlackBirds has been used in other planes and other needs.
Short, sweet, straight to the point & producing goosebumps of glee to see the blackbird blast into the sky thanks brother.👍 Cheers.🍻 Rich.😎
WOW, WHAT AN AWESOME AIRCRAFT! John P.
Great
The thumbnail pic was the A12.
Firefox maximus
Can it fly to mars and back
Wow, this one didn't crash. A third of the total number manufactured HAVE crashed. They're junk.

Just because a few crashed , doesn't make them ( Junk ). The BlackBirds were probably some of the hardest planes to fly. It's why only the Best Of Best flew them and every pilot was married.
58 years of supersonic but a substitute such as the Aurora doesn’t exist? Really? I smell bullshit!!

The SR-71 was obsolete the day it flew. It was far too risky to fly it over the Soviet Union and it only ever flew over tiny developing countries. Satellites and drones are far superior and less risky. Even a satellite pass is less predictable than a plane that anyone within 10 miles of Beale, Kadena, or Mildenhall knew when it took off and it still needed to hit a tanker and fly a very predictable flight due to political constraints. This is why not only the Soviets were able to intercept it numerous times (they didn’t fire because the SR-71s remained in international airspace) but also the Swedes in much slower aircraft.
