I think its good to see Drifta working on a budget range of china made products because you can still trust that Luke would have researched the gear and picked the best of the crop. From my time in procurement I can tell you that China made products work on a grading system when it comes to quality, A is the grade is lowest, AA in mid quality and AAA+ is the higher quality gear and its all priced accordingly. Good on Drifta for making a range thats affordable or can be used for those times when you just don't want to take your best gear to a camp event. I like having really good gear but sometimes I don't want to use it when I know its really crappy conditions, so I'm happy to sacrifice something thats not cost me a small fortune. This was a good call by Luke, I don't see any of this as a compromise, to me it's a range , price and quality grade extension of drifta's gear. Last thing, Backing up some of the weaker parts with Aussie made parts like the rope kit is a stroke of brilliance and still getting a boot liner for the table will keep in protected. Nice work Drifta.

Finally there is a decent quality stretcher on the market. Something solid that isn't going to move around on a big bloke like me. I have something similar from a company that doesn't sell them anymore. This would be great with a swag on top. Well done.

Best part of this vid Luke/Kaito is you still have 90 employees. Good on you to keep moving and evolving. You know a few weeks ago we were washing the truck using a hose with new recently fitted cheap connectors and the nozzle blew off and soaked me. I was swearing my head off cursing its point of origin and my son was laughing and simply said "then stop buying cheap crap". He was of course right annoyingly. We all have the luxury of choice. Here we have a really trusted brand being completely up front about some new market/ products they are trying and you can choose to buy or not. I'll stick with my Snow Peak Chairs and Drifta Canvas products for the time being but if I was in the market for the other stuff I would trust you guys over other cheaper brands for sure.....now to go find some Aussie made brass tap fittings! Cheers.

a better idea would be to have a pocket with a drawstring at the top and bottom of the underside of the sleeping so that it slides over each end of the the mattress and stretcher, pull on the drawstring to keep it taught. Can't move up and can't move down. Would work will with this type of stretcher by the looks of it.

I can understand the reasons why manufacturing these particular Drifta products are implemented overseas and why it's better to control your own brand. On a positive note, they are Aussie designed and quality controlled by a well experienced Australian company, with staff that love their personal camping. At least profits are supporting an Aussie company, that still customise and manufacture other Australian made products. That's good enough for me and I'll put my trust in what Drifta has desighned.

The big plus that the Oztent Stretcher (King Goanna version) has going for it is that it has cushioning sewn into it and therefore no need for the inflatable mattress. I will proudly support Drifta whenever I can but I don't want to buy a stretcher and also have to buy a mattress. Maybe it is too costly to include that or most people don't want it? I hope they consider making a deluxe version with padding. I also like another commenter's idea of pockets in the corners to hold a mattress in place. Benny Baggins mostly we don’t have the labour force mate . they sending all the kids to university. and aussie labour is the most uncompetitive in the world unfortunately. making cars is high skilled labour, making camp chairs would be low skilled labour. no one wants to do that and if they do the products are not competitive to what Australians are happy to pay . high cost of living , drives up minimum wage, and that forced out the labour market.

  • @BenMitro

@@DriftaCamping4WD Thanks Luke. I have heard that before, but now I am more inclined to believe that our high cost of living (and therefore minimum pay expectations) is actually killing our manufacturing industries. I'd imagine that in a large marketplace, like China, the US or Europe it would be viable to invest in automation, reducing dependency on cost of labour. We tend not to have that big market focus and hence we find ourselves with limited prospects for the manufacture of mass produced goods here in Aus, simply because the local market is not big enough to sustain it and world markets are not "our thing". I wonder if that would change if government and venture capitalists actually backed Australian ingenuity and invested in the automation and world marketing of Australian products that would be required for us to have a successful manufacturing sector? Enough rambling and wishing. I genuinely wish you the very best with your business. Drifta is one of the few Australian Businesses actually taking risks, innovating and manufacturing in Australia.

I've spent 35 years of my life providing industrial electrical service to companies that made things here, but the local economy doesn't care about supporting them and too many of them have shut up shop. Who makes chairs in aus then ? we don't and we can't, so either import them or don't sell the most basic piece of camping equipment, a camp chair. - kaito

Go ahead and buy the Drifta range or Uniflame. Not everyone has the $$$ lying around to afford those. Made in China is not bad as long as there is proper quality control.
