In today's video, I introduce my new project car, a bone stock 1989 Nissan 240SX Fastback! Along with outlining the new series I'm filming around this car, I'll give you guys a full tour and explain why I chose to go with a 240 in the first place. As a big fan of originality, this car has been a real blast so far and I cannot wait to take the next steps toward making this a unique and fun build that everyone can be apart of and give advice on what you all would like to see out of this project. The next video, whether it be up in the next week or two weeks, will be a detailing video to really see how good this baby cleans up! I hope you all enjoy, this is very exciting!

    OK. I've owned 240SX's for about ten years now, and here's what I would do if I were you: For an engine swap, you said you wanted to preserve the integrity of the 240SX, so with that you can swap in the DOHC KA24DE from the '91 model and up and that'll get you 15 more horsepower. If you wanted to go JDM with it, the 1.8 liter turbo CA18DET is period-correct for that model and will get you around 165 horsepower (only 10 more than the naturally-aspirated KA24DE), then there's the very popular 2.0 liter turbo SR20DET swap. That'll be good for around 200 hp, and honestly that would be my pick. Whichever you choose, keep them as stock as possible to ensure reliability. People like to say that 240SXs are unreliable, but that's because everyone tries to "tune" them and ends up just making things worse. With added power, you'll need better brakes. Stock brakes are fine for the KA24DE or CA18DET swaps, but if you go SR20DET, you may want to think about front brakes from a 300ZX. With these brakes, you'll need to convert to 5-lug hubs, which means different wheels. I'd go with stock S14 SE wheels if I were you. As far as aesthetics go, you might want to consider the later model (commonly referred to as "Kouki," or "Type X") tail lights. They look really great in my opinion, but it definitely makes it look more modern. You might also want to consider the export-model front turn signals. These have a separate parking lamp from the turn signal that emits a white light due to different lighting laws in other countries. Those are very subtle, but unique, visual changes. If you need any advice on anything about these cars, let me know! These are very fun cars, and when kept stock, can last a lifetime. My current daily-driver S14 has 245k miles and counting on the original drivetrain!

    I often feel how underappreciated this channel is. Yes I do understand that 1m is a real achievement, but this guy has placed in too much effort to deserve this little. What I"m saying is, some channels are just exploding in popularity, given that they are ofc doing something else, but it's such a pity that in reality, higher amounts of effort may not necessarily yield more results. Nonetheless, I really hope for the channel to keep expanding because I just absolutely adore the reviews. Despite the 15minutes long videos, your content is too engaging that the time just flies by while watching

    i love the idea if keeping it close to stock.. many 240 owners turn it into a drift car or show car.. i love the idea of just upgrading each performance parts to keep the stock feel but turn it upto 110%. 300hp, better brakes, upgraded sway bars and suspension 👍

    Perhaps make it a sleeper if you do anything in terms of modifications? So many of these cars have bonkers exterior modifications, like wings, but why it can just look stock but with a good amount of horsepower, upgraded handling, and so forth. Ideas on the paint for instance, the color is a very dark and dreary color and might make the car more alive in appearance with the addition of some paint. I can see two nice color's for this car, one being a British Racing Green with some nice chrome accents in certain places. Maybe a nice gentle light blue that would give this car a very peaceful aura to it. Interior coloring, a light tan or dark tan interior will make the cars cabin full of light. Maybe keep the stock rims to help boost the stock look. Know for the external modifications. Perhaps a engine from one of the older skylines like the RB26DETT to keep the stockish look under the hood and keep it Nissan. Power would be 550 or 525 with some modifications to the engine, such as upgraded twin turbos, to keep it nice and balanced. A 3:55 or 3:73 limited slip diff, larger disc brakes in the front and smaller in the rear, a exhaust note that is not overly loud, but sounds very sporty and throaty. Maybe a T-56 for added drivability. You can give the engine bay a stock look to fool some people when you pop the hood. I can see this car in the setup I described as a nice car you take on the back roads, bring it to shows, and meet ups. I can think of so many other ideas for this car but this one of ideas I thought I would share with you. Hope the ideas I shared with you help spark some ideas for your car ^-^

    Sean Slater nah, as Kyle said, this car is a time capsule and changing the engine would ruin the originality. I would take the original engine, and rebuild it from top to bottom.

    MRFUCKOFF202 Passive restraints were mandatory in the US from the late 80's to the early 90's. Most car makers, including imported cars (Ferrari 348's and Testsrossas included) had them. Unless the car had airbags, they were required. GM used the door mounted multi-point seat belts that were designed to stay buckled always and then you slip through them and close the door. No one ever did that. When the mandate was lifted, about the same time the mandate for 85mph speedos was eliminated, we went back to making normal cars again. Somewhat normal. Boring, really, but, you know.

  • @JoshBrinson

    @JoshBrinson

    MRFUCKOFF202 Don't know. Our 91 Escort had them and my 92 Tempo had them. My Cutlass also had passive restraints as well. Our Taurus did not have them because of the airbag. It was weird. I think there were conflicting and contradictory regulations regarding them. Which is why it was overruled shortly afterwards.
