Normally these things are introduced at IO. Google felt that AR kit is a competion. But definitely they were working on this before AR kit was announced. But its good to see it on android.

how do you manage to get those soft shadows on the tiger for example, with umbras and penumbras, and the screen space orange reflections on the floor in the part where the dog is shouting at the tiger, all those effects are way too advanced for mobile I guess, and also require the mobile device to know the scene main directional light, reflectivity and glossiness property of materials, etc etc, is this really feasible?? if so I would love to see a documentation or tutorial on how to achieve that level of realism on AR, thanks!

__spencer__ lol no it's fine, no argument. You're probably right. I was only a kid, so I'm just going by what I remember, I'm sure there had to be other technology doing the same things before the 3ds, but I wasn't aware of all of that.

My God!! I have been waiting for this a long time.

There are limited resources to learn ARCore.Please make some tutorials that would be helpful for the beginners to explore and learn.

Why is Google restricting the availablity of ARCore to so less smartphone modules? There are much more performant smartphones like my OnePlus3 which would not have any problem processing AR. No special sensors are necessary, if I am understand right.

ARCore will run on millions of devices, starting with the Pixel and SGalaxy S8, running 7.0 Nougat and above.

A neat toy for those in the flagship market, but it's going to be a few years before it's of any relevance to the average Android user. I'm interested in Daydream but not a £400-£500+ phone... This is a stepping stone to SmartGlasses were augmented reality is part of our everyday world, which will certainly be interesting when it arrives. But for now it's just some way out there possibility that's in early alpha (e.g. hololens), not something consumers should get excited about any time soon.

I have the APK *I don't know if works* but I can't use it in my Nexus 5x :(
