Intro to Communication Fundamentals

What makes the difference between an elegant turn of phrase that inspires mankind to come together to accomplish great and noble feats...and the clumsy faux pas that gets us punched in the face? Communication is about sending the right message to the right audience at the right time through the right channel in the right context for the right purpose. In this video series we'll explore each of these elements and learn how to become better communicators.

Communication can definitely be a powerful thing. And since I mostly watched the videos you made in backwards order (except for the Tuckman Model Avengers Videos, which I watched in a more proper order), I want to say thank you for giving me this opportunity to jumpstart my semester with extra credit and information from your videos. Even if I do forget some of it, I can always watch them again when their time in the semester comes and have it click a little better the second time. Thank you, Lon Schiffbauer

I've occasionally had thoughts about how we as a species are able to successfully communicate and they often end with me having a headache. It is truly amazing that we are able to share information through, as you described them, the grunts and groans that we identify as speech.

When you drew on the whiteboard and asked what I saw, my first responds was a house and then the shapes. It is funny how we do see things as symbols rather than what they actually are. I love this comparison we make of communication as grunts, muscular contractions embedded with symbolic meaning that we as humans. I think of how animals communicate with each other or with humans, they don't have a language they make up and teach each other, they instinctively understand each other through symbolic meanings to noise and gestures. Interesting thoughts here.
