So much, i saw it in summer 2008 and weeks later i was hiking in switzerland on my own for 10 days. Today my plan is to go to Canada and start a new chapter of my life

I swear that book made me look at everything differently. I was raised to question the establishment, and to avoid conforming, and i even rebelled against my own parents who were rebelling against society by living by their means. I found myself living outside of my means, and eventually was to a point of no means. I was destitute, and without a home. I was a failure, but i found contentment with nothing, and i remembered Into the Wild. The movie came out. Changed me again. Life is not property.

I went on my walkabout when I was his age. Sold my car and my goodwill furniture, hitched rides all the way down to Oaxaca, Mexico, back up through Northern Cal., crossed into B.C., Alberta, walked on a glacier, and then over to Saskatchewan. Entered the U.S. through North Dakota, went down to Texas (where my parent lived), and finally back to SoCal. The only difference between me and him is that I was prepared, perhaps less idealistic... and lucky.

It's amazing the difference of perspective. The original trailer is my go-to for "inspiration," yet when I watched this rendition it is just as powerful yet for very different reasons. the amount of potential Chris had was rediculous.. he could have literally gone for the stars and beyond that. Somehow, through the most of simplistic means, he did just that though, or at least i'd like to think so. He lived like very few ever will. He enjoyed nature which is just looked and then simply forgotten. This man made me realize not to conform to what society wants you to conform to, but to conform to what your soul wants to conform to.

this guy had the right idea. ever since i first saw this movie about 10 years ago i wish i could do what he did, just amazing his life may have been cut short but atleast it wasnt filled with bullshit. judging from the movie here id say he had an amazing life full of freedom and adventure and honestly thats what i look for in life, exitment, great food, and adventure. love goes out to the mcandless family. chris had such an impact on me

McCandless really was onto something. Though he realize he needed people to share his happiness with, he realized that our over crowded society has complicated life and made it almost a chore just to be happy. How much is enough?
