With me being Apache I always tell people. Listen to the warnings that mother Earth gives us. Listen to warnings and nature. Things do speak to you.. I remember my aunts house had a very bad spirit there. My sister (younger) walked in that house and said. Whoever is trying to enage with me you are not strong enough to use my body as a vessel. Then my sister walked around the house and the house was cleared of all megative energies after a few hours. The land the house was built on had bad history.

I think the Chief knew of some spirit out in those woods and that Alfred's epilepsy made it easy for something to take hold of his mind. The Chief could read it. That's why he said don't leave. But if you do, DO NOT GO THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS. Something was out there and Alfred was the vessel. When John found the bodies and followed the trail down to the cabin thing where he said someone had been living, I doubt it was Alfred that had built it. It was already there. Plus how could he have subdued all 5 men on his own? Some were skeletons, some looked like they had just been killed. Nobody would have stayed in that campsite after the first 1 or two were murdered. They were hunted at different points and their bodies brought back to that site. I don't think Alfred was strong enough to do that on his own.

The throwing up makes sense if he hadn’t been fed in a while, there’s a condition called Refeeding Syndrome where if someone hasn’t been fed a certain amount of calories for a consistent time period, if you suddenly feed them too much too soon if can cause nausea, vomiting, extremely low electrolyte and fluid levels as well. So that didn’t surprise me too much.
