Intex Excursion 5 Inflatable Boat part 3, final.

Taking out the Intex boat on Leaburg Dam, catching a lot of trout, 2 thumbs up on the boat, works really well!

    First off I appreciate all the views, but for all the life jacket comments, I DO have life jackets and I know this water. We were sitting anchored in maybe 6'-10' of water and you could see to the bottom and that area has no current and both my kids can swim so calm down.

    I just got here, and I didn't see what the other comments said, but being a boater and bass fisherman who has a son, it's the first thing I noticed. Again, I didn't see the comments, BUT... What they may have been trying to say is that (assuming you're in Oregon) the law states that ANY child under 12 MUST wear a USCG approved PFD at ALL TIMES while on board a vessel with NO EXCEPTIONS. It's not about how deep the water is, or how well they can swim. It's just the law. My son swims like a fish, and bass fishing we're usually not more than several feet off the shore, but he's still gotta wear his PFD. It sucks but it is what it is.

    R.U. Sirius - I can't speak for any other state, but here in TN they have to wear a vest if under twelve UNLESS they are moored or anchored. He was anchored, so I don't see the issue. Are kids not allowed to swim without a vest just because there is a boat?

    For those wanting floor measurements (with hard angles). Buy 4x8 wood (96" x 48") draw lines first. Mine is in 2 parts (half exact). Front: 20" wide tip. 10" in from front tip, 29" wide. Base of the front board should end in 36" wide. Rear: 26" wide at end. 3" in from the rear tip, 30" wide. 10" in from rear tip, 34". And the base of the rear board 36". Now just cut the edges. You will be left with angled edges but just lightly smooth them out with sandpaper and line the board with ducktape. You can use it just like this but what I did was add hinges and carpet. Home depot did those things for me. (I did the hinges but HD took them out to add the carpet and re-added them). I have a clam shell design.

    +Gmork Thanks I appreciate it! You won't be disappointed, it is the best bang for the buck as for as inflatables go. We took it out last year after these videos were made around 8 times, so far everything works great, as long as we were in lakes like this with not much current. This year I hope to get a trolling motor.

    +Jason Olbinski how do u think the intex5 will fare on a river,its 84 miles long also parts will be to shallow,so will have to take boat out the river here n there just for 100 or 200 yards then back in the river,but hey I can live with that,just cruising a river appeals much more that lakes,do you rate this boat against punctures I.e would it pop like a bloon or is it robust enough,to cope taking care obviously.??greatful if u have a chance to reply..go yo yo n a bottle of rum lol.

    @jasonolbinski9333

    +Mike Cairns Honestly I couldn't tell you all that. The material is pretty strong and thick but if it hits something hard enough it could pop, like any raft. Personally I wouldn't take this down a river without knowing the river first.

    dame jason,the river is 84 mile long with parts that are to shallow,so would have to get out and carry boat till its deep enough again,its not a river you could sale a yaut pal or a rowing boat even but in parts it idilic,and rivers appeal to my more adventurous side or hit a lake as i live in lake district england but i want to do the river over 2 or 3 days pitching tent every 30 miles say over 3 days,the dinys vinal what ever that means,but id hate to ruin the dingy first trip been 100 pound our biggest lakes 6 mile long n mile wide,no adventure,on a lake really ex is 5man wat if just 2 pll n our tents n gear only took 2 river it wouldnt bee so low in water maybe if i just me n pal took to river would that help //

What you did with the floor as well as how you were catching those fish really got me psyched up to take mine out on the water when it arrives. Hey Jason you can purchase an inflating wristband in the event he would fall in if he doesn’t know how to swim. That should calm down the life jacket comments. That way he can put the life jacket on if he’s going to be in the water for a long swim. Really nice videos of your whole process with the boat. I also agree another viewer, you seem to have a wonderful family and concept of doing thing together. Keep up the good videos. Looks like you had some interesting videos I’m going to take a look at.

    Thanks for all the videos. I used to have a Sea Eagle but stupidly sold it. Started kayaking. Issue I cannot fish with my dog, Stella in the kayak, not enough room! So I have been looking at this raft. I had never put a floor in my Sea Eagle. Got it when I was 14 and used it for over 25 years. Why did you use OSB rather than marine plywood (cost?). Also, a suggestion regarding the carpet and pipe insulation. A high grade spray adheasive would work well for adhearing the carpet to the wood and E6000 would work well to adhear the pipe insulation to the edges. This is what I think I might do but started considering using an epoxy Rihn Liner type product since I am messy with worm bedding and fish blood. Probably going to build a box seat to attach a swival seat to and for storage. I plan on rowing it as I like the exersize and my shoulders and arms looked good back then, LOL. Hoping to also do a trolling motor too. Love to see your family fishing!

    Very cool, just purchased one through Ebay with the trolling motor adapter. I will follow what you did in construction. I understand that if you soak a little anti freeze on wood it will help inhibit wood rot. Also have to register it before I use a trolling motor. I think Oregon requires it also, Wa not. To me it's kinda like licensing a electric scooter. lol I intend to do a little offshore crabbing on calm days come November. Informative Video. Ps I will put some zip ties to hold the foam in :-)

    Hey... the boat itself is cool and with that solid base was even cooler! Nice work! I would like to buy one, but we don't have any calm dam or lake nearby. I guess the Explorer 200 would be better for the beach and for me and my kid. Congratulations on the boat and with the family!

    Way to make memories with the kids. Just brought one of these boat for a small lake, Love the floor. Will do it also, great vids - thanks. Have you tried folding chairs in it yet with the floor? invest in a trolling motor and mount. It will save your back!

    It was nice to see the improvement in the properties of a good inflatable boat, but with one serious drawback for any inflatable boat. You cannot walk without a floor, sit normally, get in and out of a boat. I want to share my experience that I did 10 years ago and use it to this day. Floor. I have 1/2 inch plywood, three pieces. Below them are 4 2x2 inch bars for the entire length of the boat. They are finally bolted together. I soaked plywood 2 times with sunflower oil to protect it from water. If it is absorbed, it does not stain anything. Three pieces of plywood fit well in the trunk behind the rear seats of the Dodge Grand Caravan. The bars are attached to the top of the car or inside the middle to cross the whole car. Motor. I started using a trolling motor (4 straight speed, 1 rear) and marine battery, which I put in the cooler at the back. The cooler is also a seat for the "captain". One seat in the middle is a board. But a beach chair with an awning is better. The battery is enough for 4 people to travel 1 mile round trip without charging. And the battery still shows 60% charge. The main thing is that Intex Excursion 5 with such parts easily fits into a minivan for 2 weeks of vacation: fishing, crab trap, shrimping, fun for children. The last - in the salt water marsh of Edisto river, South Carolina.
