University of York Student here, we still have many posters around campus advocating for the University’s de-investment from unethical businesses/ sectors. The work Tom did in 2009 is a battle still going in 2022 and beyond.

Lecturers' real wages & pensions going down (not to mention postgrads who were never paid fairly in the first place), there's been strikes for the past two years, and now the UCU and RG unis are kinda in a stalemate partly because RG unis agreed amongst themselves that none of them would compromise, and partly because the UCU is good at making placards and useless in negotiation.

@@Jacob-yg7lz I thought you meant the Pirate Party (who are currently in the Czech government and thus part of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the second half of 2022) but it was as a joke with his International Talk Like a Pirate Day persona Mad Cap'n Tom with which he unintentionally won the election for president of the University of York Students' Union in 2009, going for a seat in the Parliament in 2010 because of a lost bet and running against an actual Pirate Party candidate as well (who got 90 votes and Tom Scott 84 in last place). He got more confident though. You can see his speaking here wasn't really fluent, many pauses. Now he seems to be way more coherent. Might also be cuts though. This wasn't scripted obviously

University of York Student here, we still have many posters around campus advocating for the University’s de-investment from unethical businesses/ sectors. The work Tom did in 2009 is a battle still going in 2022 and beyond.

Lecturers' real wages & pensions going down (not to mention postgrads who were never paid fairly in the first place), there's been strikes for the past two years, and now the UCU and RG unis are kinda in a stalemate partly because RG unis agreed amongst themselves that none of them would compromise, and partly because the UCU is good at making placards and useless in negotiation.
Just shows that his presenting style in his videos is natural for him

@@Jacob-yg7lz I thought you meant the Pirate Party (who are currently in the Czech government and thus part of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the second half of 2022) but it was as a joke with his International Talk Like a Pirate Day persona Mad Cap'n Tom with which he unintentionally won the election for president of the University of York Students' Union in 2009, going for a seat in the Parliament in 2010 because of a lost bet and running against an actual Pirate Party candidate as well (who got 90 votes and Tom Scott 84 in last place).
