Interview with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Co-Creator Kevin Eastman
A beautiful thing about the TMNT is that they mean different things to different people. Every new creation of a TMNT comic series, movie, or TV show creates a new generation of followers. To some, they became fans with the earliest comics. To others, they caught on with the 2007 animated movie. The 2012 Nickelodeon show brought the Turtles back into the mainstream consciousness and garnered the love of a whole new era of fans. Kids of the earlier generation latched onto the early TV show, begged for the first run of toys, were captivated by the movies, and never let go.
Zach Norris links up with Turtles co-creator, Kevin Eastman, and chats with him about the lasting and constantly evolving legacy of the TMNT in his memorabilia-filled recreation office at the San Diego Comic Gallery. Their discussion ranged from the creation of the Turtles, to Kevin's early TMNT sketches, to seeing his characters come to life on the silver screen, to what his legacy means in comic culture, and more.

These are the types of interviews I want to see more people do. Very mellow, right in the artist's environment and with a host that's, at the very least, informed on the topic. Hope to see more. Great job on the music too.

Agreed Kevin is my favorite artist as well.
"are you okay with the Turtles being your legacy?" What sort of question is that ffs??
awesome..i grew up on TMNT in the 80s and im glad they are still going strong
I remember I was like 10, back in 1992, when I first picked up colour print of the original TMNT mirage run, and it just blew me away. I was a fan of the animated show since I was 6, but that as the first time I had seen the Mirage turtles. They ere unlike anything else I was collecting at the time. Before that I had Batman comics and Daredevil comics, but there was a certain rawness to the Mirage turtles that made them endearing. ... and I'm a fan till this day. For me it's Miller, Kirby and Eastman/ Laird whose work I love more and more each time I look at it.
Thank you for making my childhood livable.
That venues de milo painting is awesome
I remember drawing TMNT when I was a kid. I even had a few Turtles growing up. Long to Create from Imagination and can see TMNT in my mind. That might help to Create something new.
This was truly a great interview and really informative on the history of the franchise that is now TMNT. You guys should do more of these, what I consider nostalgic pop culture hits.
I just wanted to say tmnt changed my life not only as a kids I have always loved them and I always will thank you Kevin for some the best memories I have as a child and a grown up
I’m such a fan of the tmnt I need to meet him in person😅
I’m so happy I had a pleasure to meet Kevin Eastman he was one of the nicest artists I’ve ever met. He has one of the biggest heart ever. I mean that. He looked out for me and for a lot of other people that went to see him.
My hero...
And to think that I had all of the original comics! At least through the early teen numbers. Anyone remember the one offs, not only of Raphael, but all four had one offs. AND there were comics of each turtle demonstrating how to do martial arts! Oh if I could go back in time and save those comics!!!!
This guy must be a billionaire by now with all the TMNT merchandising thats been sold for 20 years now!

He sold his chunk to Peter at some point, I remember in one of the documentaries they mention it.
I hope he's happy😊.
TMNT and Heavy Metal comics rule! Babes, sci fi, martial arts, and pizza!
That's one guy I'd LOVE to interview!
8:30 Hey, it's SpongeBob and Patrick.
Came to this vid after watching mutant mayhem. Such a good movie!
Great Interview & History Lesson. Please make more content like this and keep up the good Job.
Thank you for the ninja turtles, cool and badass. Awesome
MORE MORE MORE I LOVE THISSSSS
Thanks for sharing!
Very well done - thank U.
I have too meet Kevin, him and Peter made my childhood. TMNT was and is still a huge part of my life. He surely belongs up there next to Jack Kirby....
I’m an amateur comic book artist and I hope to make the next big thing like Kevin did.
Nice interview, but most of this info was in the documentary Turtle Power. Would have liked more unique questions.
He is my idol and one my favorite artist.
awesome!!
Awesome
Awesome!!!
Nice interview. I’m a big fan of the turtles since back in the 80’s and a few years ago I went out and got issues #1-6 of the 1984 TMNT all first prints. Raphael #1 first Casey Jones and TMNT adventures #1 first bebop and rocksteady. Hopefully 1 day I’ll get them all signed by Kevin Eastman .
hell yeah !!!
I LOVE TURTLESSSSS
Is that "Boogie" by Bugseed playing at the end?
AMAZING INTERVIEW!!!!!

Do I smell a TMNT x TH capsule coming soon?!
So coool
Was a huge fan growing up, I just don't know how they haven't made billiions given that they own the characters. Royalties from the toys alone should have cleared them $50m in the 90s. I wonder whether it was the lack of a savvy agent/manager/lawyer because if there is one thing I am sure about, there are at least 10 people/companies that made more money out of TNMT than the people that own their rights.
Does anyone know where I can buy the giant raphael figure at 3:39? thanks!
That poster showing Steve Ditko's art with Stan Lee's name is fucked up
Any comments about the interview style of this program..?
Kevin i have a idea for season 6 tmnt 2012
Parents were huge "Saved By The Bell" fans eh Zach?
Now that's a fan I am am one too
Thanks Eastman and Laird for the ninja-fu theater. Only comic I have ever enjoyed. The best part was the shoes. I, and many others, wanted to see it go in a more adult direction--much like the issues in GN #4. I was inspired by this to created an even better (that more ridiculous) group of karate mutants. As a teenager, I did not have a story in mind as I do now. I am not an artist. I suppose I could write it as a short story.
thats not zach morris!!
right in the childhood dude , cowabunga!
POV: basically my bedroom
Rocksteady & Beebop gave this a thumbs down.
