i feel like oldheads are not gonna like what he’s saying but i found this fascinating. it means a lot when someone as technically skilled/gifted as Syn says he cares more about the craft of songwriting and is willing to take a back seat as a guitarist. him being able to tastefully show off his talents on record rather than spamming licks shows me he’s willing to play what serves the song rather than flex his skill

There are 2 reasons behind this. Number 1 is not putting something on a record you arent completely comfortable doing live and number 2 is not to let your ego get in your way. There is always someone technically more proficient than you and myself out there so theres no point in trying to outdo anyone. Just have fun and enjoy what you do. Yah I'm sure gates knows a million scales and licks that we havnt even heard of but if it doesnt work with the song then it doesnt really serve the purpose of what your trying to put out there.

Syn might be my favorite musician ever, not only is he one of the most talented players to ever pick up a guitar but he just seems like a completely kick ass cool guy, and I couldn’t agree more with his philosophies after hearing this interview any more than I already do.

Love the way he expressed that there's no magic on being good as other guitar players would do, just practicing and looking for knowledge and new stuff.

The man, the myth, Mr Synyster Gates🪶🔥 Django has been inspirational, one of the fastest players, per note capacity. You rock

Brian was in the end process of mastering life is but a dream during this, and he says "too busy fucking working out the perfect execution of a fucking stupid solo" ....... Not even caring. Breath of fresh air.

Synner truly is one of the best place to learn guitar and all of that judgment free! There's always going to be someone there happy to help and answer any question anyone may have!

But unfortunately didn’t invest much time in learning because of stuff but! Right about 15:00 when he talks about loving tones and textures in songwriting, reminds me of his breakdown of Exist, when he was talking about the reverse delay effect he found that basically inspired that really cool guitar solo in between the first and second movements.

Syn is a guy I would be freinds with irl...no bullshit, good sense of humor, he "grew up" n matured into a adult/dad without completely "switching up" which I respect...as someone who jus turned 33 n has no kids, do many guy I grew up with just have that weird "switch up" n turn into a completely different person..most of the time it's obvious that the wife/spouse has them acting like someone they're not. U can still be who u are without compromising yourself just to satiate what some else thinks u should be...syn obviously grew out of eyeliner and makeup but u can tell he has grown from a reckless,crazy Rockstar into a "family man" that still enjoys partying with his wife lol (hopefully after the jits go to bed!)..

Ed was not a metal guitarist....he was a rock guitar god. But to suggest Iommi wasn't the godfather of metal guitar is criminal By the way i had to educate his vocalist yesterday on twitter, and he figured out it was a bad mistake to endorse inferior genre artists and defend "musicians" who cannot perform when laptops go missing

How can Ed be the Godfather of metal when Iommi influenced Ed, came first and basically invented the genre? It is illogical. My education of M Shadows is right on his timeline , he basically acknowledged the error of his ways with my letting him know he should not be lauding inferior genre artists who need laptops as crutch to perform shows
