This is a true actress of class and merit. She understands her craft, she acknowledges the talent of her co-stars, she studied the greats, she makes the character hers and, most of all, she knows her audience. As an actor you have to understand what your audience wants. Unlike today where "actors" who just do it for the fame and money. She is dearly missed.

such an intelligent woman and what a wonderful actress. Keeping up Appearances is one of my all time favorites. What a lovely cast of people in that series!

Every word she says is like a blessing from heaven. Her lucidity and elegance are beyond comparison.

In addition to that, she seems to have a complete intellectual grasp of what she and the others were doing. She speaks like a scientist, describing her own character snd work. She seriously understands how this stuff works, and why it was so successful. Amazing.

She could have played a 4th sister of Hyacinth - and really got away with it - as a believable different character - far more so than Arthur Lowe's effort of playing Mainwearing's brother.

Very good definiton about Elizabeth 'Terrifying neurotic energy and victim'. :)

I could listen to her and watch her talk 24 hours a day. Such a special and personable woman, not to mention hilarious, although she is good at more dramatic material as well.

Patricia Routledge was fabulous and funny as Hyacinth. But she has a wonderful voice. I saw and heard her sing Climb Every Mountain. What a surprise to me. She has the best female singing voice I have ever heard. Hear her sing in KZread.

Love it. She is so right about the "structure" of comedy. Her philosophy of comedy is very Aristotelian, and absolutely owes to its success, I think. Wish we had more like her.

Patricia has such an intelligent and incisive personality. Have massive respect for her, and everything she has ever been involved in.

I always hope Patricia was able to keep the beautiful clothes and hats she wore on the show! 😘

Wow, it really amazes me how intelligent this woman is. Her understanding about theater and humor surpasses most of the actors today

I watched all of Keeping Up Appearances on Netflix. I wish they made more episodes. Patricia is a truly genuine actress and I will always adore her work. My friends would sort of joke with me because I am in my 20s and would watch this show haha.

I love you Patricia...I always watch KUA rerun episodes every night to relax me before bed. What a great actress and rare talent...THE BRITS HAVE NEVER FAILED THE WORLD OF ENTERTAINMENT....NEVER.!!!

That scene Hyacinth and Richard driving in the car and going round and round through the gasstation. It was hilarious, I couldn’t stop laughing each time I saw that scene.

one of the most brilliant performances, and great intelligence, language mastery and character study behind it. Bravo, bravo Dame Patricia, and thank you for the delicious laughs.

She played Hyacinth so well, that I got really mad at her sometimes. But I laughed hard at some of her antics. This was very nice to hear this interview.

What a fantastic actress she was/is, mainly know her from Keeping up Appearances, absolutely loved that show. I really enjoyed the way how she describes the characters and the show, very intelligent woman. You can see glimpses of Hyacinth in her voice and facial expressions too😁👍🏻

What is dumb-founding, is that today, there are very talented writers, but they are limited in the choice of subjects. The days of excellent/funny non-PC sitcoms (such as this) are long gone.

Patricia routledge what a fantastic actress she Is I like the one in keeping up apprences when she falls off a boat

Patricia is hands-down a great comedic actress and a class act all the way. Nobody could play Hyacinth Bucket quite like she did. She gave that iconic character a life all its own. How Roy Clarke was able to juggle this show along with Last Of The Summer Wine at the same time was quite amazing. It's a testament to what a great comedy writer he was by creating such timeless characters.

Never get tired of watching the repeats. Never fail to raise a smile or a giggle. Such gems. At least the show never ran it's course like some do. It ended on a high and left us wanting more. No you can't beat classics such as this. No swearing, aggression or vulgarity just good clean fun

If you've never heard Routledge as "Little Mary Sunshine" for when I first discovered her, Original London cast, never realized until years after I had been in that musical in college and then seeing her on KUA. She had such a strong soprano voice and She was just so funny. Idol across all scope of performance. I just love her.

It is a pity that "keeping up appearances" has only 5 seasons. The humor of the serie is brilliant and Patricia is wonderful as Mrs. Bucket.

Because DAME Patricia wanted TO leave THE role OF hyacinth ON a high AND focus more ON theater stage work As DAME Patricia was IN HER 60s by that time! She's 91 years young know

Patricia is still going strong at 93. There's several utube videos of her as recently as a year ago of her singing and carrying on like a much younger woman. Listening to her explain all the specific, kind of psychological things that make a good comedy to the audience is fascinating. Who'd thought it was so deep?

Lovely! Her performances in Alan Bennett's Talking Heads are flawless. Nobody else can touch her in these. Brilliant timing!

My favorite characters, even above Hyacinth, were Onslow and Daisy. Next favorite was Richard. Third was the Vicar.

What a truly remarkable person. Thank you for giving everything to the character of Hyacinth. She was priceless.

When they do these interviews and specials, why do they never talk about Mary Millar (Rose)? Millar was genius at playing Rose.

Yes it's a strange and sad one. Both versions of Rose were great Mary Millar was the Best. She brought more to the role.

Hyacinth's counterpart in the United States would be a 60ish year old Southern Belle wanna be that resided in Columbus, MS, living amongst, but not in the numerous antebellum homes. Each spring would be the highlight of her year when the pilgramage (touring of the historical antebellum homes) was taking place for a month. She and her husband would be members of the First Baptist Church of Columbus. She would also be a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Her husband Richard would be retired from the local bank thats board memebers are the bluebloods of the town. He would try and sneak off with friends to enjoy some Old Charter Bourbon, because Hyacinth would not condone such behavior. ------ I really wish there could be an American version of this show?

I could see American cousins that were the equivalent of Hyacinth, Daisy, Violet and Rose..as well as the other characters, of course..

A very good interviewer.

I so wanted to be invited to one of her candlelight suppers.😂

Again he had to of been a great great writer!

The show revolved around Hyacinth, in my humble opinion, and all of the other characters were just support, for her---never cared too much for Onslow, or Daisy, did not find either one to be that humorous. Hyacinth carried the show.

i do think Pat Routledge is a little bit like Hyacinth, but not as extreme. Pat can talk honestly unlike Hyacinth but there is a little bit of Hyacinth in her.

The name of the show is 'Keeping Up Appearances' made in England in the early 1990's. Very popular comedy show around the world. In Canada and the USA it is still on PBS stations and in Canada also VisionTV.
