Interview with Dr. Joshua Rasmussen on Universalism & his Philosophical Theology
I was very excited to be able to talk to Dr. Joshua Rasmussen about his views on universalism and questions related to that, but then when we got to actually have the discussion it really went beyond my expectations.
We touch on those initial topics, but we really hit a wide variety of topics and different models of god, specifically with relation to what omniscience and omnipotence means or doesn't mean and the ways that Dr. Rasmussen squares those views with Christianity.
Honestly I can't remember a time when I have been more sympathetic to a sort of theism than after talking with Josh about these topics. I can honestly say that I'm agnostic towards the sort of god we discussed.
Of course the sort of god we discussed is not the classical kind of omnipotent and omniscient god of classical or personal theism.

Thanks for the conversation! So edifying!
I had an off-and-on email conversation with Dr. Rasmussen for nearly three years. It started with comments at his KZread channel. Nice guy. I mean, I'm nobody. I know _nothing_ about philosophy, but I'm always interested in hearing what people have to say. He wasn't convincing, but I enjoyed our discussion. And he said he enjoyed it, too. (He also admitted that most philosophers don't agree with him. I appreciated that.)

Hi! What do you think of the "Nature"-praised (!) detailed debunking of Christianity called "The Gospel of Afranius" that recently came out in English?

@@Bill_Garthright I have tested it on some professional apologists (Matt Bilyeu and Tim Bayless from Reasonable Faith) and they don't know what to say!! Since you're in contact with this guy, maybe you can ask him about it?

@@valinorean4816 Well, since I know nothing about it, myself, I have no reason to bring it up. And although Dr. Rasmussen is a Christian, he never even tried to defend Christianity, specifically. His arguments were more about a generic mind backing up all of reality. But thanks for the information.

@@Bill_Garthright This work debunks God more generally (its finding contradict Islam too, and there is a short argument about absurdity of a purely deist God).
Universalists are the best Christians for honest dialogue with people of all convictions.
Beautiful conversation, I'm attracted to thinking and seeing more about these topics
Great interview! I love to hear content from Josh, especially in a “debate” context (I.e. not echo chamber) - along the whole conversation I couldn’t pick who to “root for” in terms of whose projection most likely conforms to reality. Thought provoking and appreciated by someone in a tough phase of their journey.
Good talk! 👍
