I love Otomo. He is such an interesting man with a very un-typical thought process for making anime. His art is also pure brilliance.

"all done before I was even born."-that's not really surprising. Most beautiful things were made long before both of us were born. Including XXth century art like best animations, best films, best graphic novels and so on.

The Duffer brothers do. All Stranger Things is is a retelling of all the amazing stories they loved a kids in the 80s. Yet the show is so engaging with very like able characters, it barely matters how original it is. Just because your story copies what others did, does not mean it is automatically a bad movie.

@Jotaro97 The word epic is used to describe something grand and amazingly awesome, the OP comment wasn't just trying to compare it to a "Ancient greek literature" at all, it can be compared to that, but it's clear he wasn't saying that word for that reason at all.

He’s very laid back when he speaks but at the same time it’s impossible not to feel his passion for manga as a talks about it. Makoto Yukimura, the creator of Vinland Saga, gives me similar vibes.

It seems he came up with the general outline of the story, and some of the details, then his visual storytelling aspect just took over, like when he mentioned the single sentence leading to a dozen pages of illustration. Gotta respect someone who refuses to compromise their sense of visual design like that. He was a damn good director too.

He tries to answer the questions...I would almost kill to have those notebooks, and I completely understand why he was so uncomfortable even showing them. For Christ's sake, he even took time to write "Do Not Open" in English letters on the covers. Think about that for a minute. This man is not versed in English, as far as I can tell. Katsuhiro Otomo is a complete breed apart from most human beings, and you should all feel honored that he took even an hour or so out of his day to do this interview.

Do you mean the 'Quick Action Recorder' footage? The animated line art footage? 1, they aren't mine, none of this content is mine. I run a fan site and created this KZread channel because I'm THE Akira fan. 2, KZread took them down because once they were flagged as having copyright the owners of the content PIONEER/BANDAI told KZread to remove them. So unfortunately they can;t be re-uploaded.

Otomo's short is called Combustible and is a romance story in the style of old Japanese woodblock art. I also know there is game for the PS3 that's supposed to be like a fifth short to the film by Otomo and Suda51.
