Didn't realize Nelson Pass hits so close to home for me growing up in Sacramento and working @ UC Davis here and there. Stand up and super intelligent guy! Would be a dream to own one of his amps some day.

Nelson Pass mentioned he worked at ESS back in the 70s. My first speaker was an ESS with Oskar Heil's AMT. The clarity through the Air Motion Transformer was outstanding especially on female vocalists such as Joan Baez. Another great interview with Nelson.

Comments to Jays channel and this interview. My first separate power amp was a used JBL Energizer in 1970. This first model was the Model 400S - 40 watts/ch. A cutout in the back of a JBL speaker allowed it to be inserted into the cabinet. Both the input and the feedback loop were on a PC board for which the components for a particular JBL speaker were soldered on. The opposite side was a straight connection. There was a Integrated version which had the back part the Energizer as the power amp. These were followed up with a 60 watt /ch version. It was the first mod I did to equipment, changing the value of the input cap, which was published in the Audio Amateur. To attempt to use it, some of the caps in the secondary bridge need to be changed at least due to their age. The 40 watt Energizer was reviewed by Julian Hirsch in Stereo Review. The circuit was called the T circuit. I think it was patented by Bert Locanthi for JBL.

The living encyclopedia he must be - you can just tell by that beard 😂😂😂 As an engineer seeing his lab makes me so happy - would love more content like this - documenting the humans behind the hobby that drives us all insane
