Great guy, Justin. So honest and self-effacing. Just a hint of Alan Partridge about him at times too.

Great interview! I absolutely love this band and was lucky enough to see them in Montreal when they first toured Permission To Land. I have been anxiously awaiting their return. Also, my favorite band is Queen, so the fact that Rufus is now in the band makes me just like them even more.

Saw them when they played The Wiltern on their first tour of the States. I'd been working in the music industry for many years at the time of their debut release and it was SO refreshing to know that rock had its vanguards in The Darkness and that the torch had been passed. Great band!!

Couldn’t agree more. Justin is the greatest songwriter of our time. His songs are at once both uplifting and tear jerking. Like an emotional speedball of emotion instead of crack and heroin. And trust me, I know.

@@sonicheadfuck Yes. They can pack a small venue no problem, but they have zero public profile. They had a great stand-out retro image going but one monster hit single does not a legacy make, and sadly it was the only banger on their debut album. They couldn't deliver on the huge weight of expectation that they had quickly generated and became yesterday's news almost immediately as a result. Far better if they had slowly built a reputation. Maybe they'd have written a few more good songs and kept the momentum going long enough to create a movement like neo-glam or such, they'd be seen as culturally relevent rather than flash in the pan one-hit-wonders.

@@sonicheadfuck Look, I meant it when I said it was a shame they are all but "forgotten" as far as the mainstream is concerned. I really enjoyed them, but the rest of the songs, as good as they are, lack the hooks needed to follow 'I Believe...'. They were on the news when they hit, and for a month or two it felt like something big was going to kick off like a glam version of Brit Pop. You have to have the writing chops though, if you want to get the general public interested, and as much as I like the Darkness (as a fan of rock), their debut doesn't stand up next to, say, Oasis', in terms of wall to wall hooks for wider appeal.

Great interview. Love this band I can't wait until I see them in March. It was really fun hearing them talk about Queen too and hearing Rufus, he adds so much to the band as the new drummer and that's so cool to see this incredible band continue to grow.
