No one can answer such nonsense questions. Can you tell me the number of districts in India without googling? More importantly why would you need to know it ? I mean if you were an IAS aspirant appearing for UPSC interview then this question would have made sense but for management its mostly useless. IIMS & IITs do well because of the talent that go there from the entire country, its not because of their teaching abilities. Just take a look at introductory computer science course at IITs (use NPTEL to find it ) and compare it with introductory computer science course at say harvard (use edx). You will know the quality difference

From my personal experience, these questions usually(not every time) come up when you mention something related. They would not randomly ask you anything unless you mentioned it in your resume or one of your answers.

To all those telling about gender diversity!!! Let me tell you that an obc male will get a call from iim at 90 %tile!!! And sc st male will get a call at 75-80 %tile!!!! But a general category female will get a call at 99 %ile!!!! I am from general category and my sister got 98%ile and she didn't receive a single call from IIM ABC and Lucknow!!!! And even in the interview..... If you don't know the answer, no matter what your gender is! No matter how beautiful or ugly you are!!!! You won't get selected!!! So all those jealous duffers out there in this comment section! Stop victimizing yourself and stop making excuses if you were unable to score minimum 99 %ile in CAT and if you were unable to answer the questions in the interview!!! More than 75% of IIM ABC and L is filled with male engineers, and they got selected bcoz they got more than 99%ile and gave appropriate answers in the interview, no matter whatever kind of face they had!!!......... Edit - I am busy with my work and I replied this comment 3 weeks ago from now and zindagi bhar, mai useless and free people ko reply karne me apna time waste nhi kar sakti! I am not a native in that language which is spoken primarily in Kerala, but I do happen to know few things about that zh in Kozhikode. It is known as exotic L, in linguistics (I mean colloquially, because the technical name has like 4 words in it 😂). And speaking about that girl's attempt at pronunciation, we should give her a break. She did what any not native person would do, and went with a very literal pronunciation of the spelling, perceiving it be correct, without knowing about all the intricacies and the actual validity of it. That differentiation will almost be impossible for her, unless she's a native or knows Malayalam very well. Speaking if it's pronunciation, it's similar R or L. (Similar, not Identical) [Rabbit Hole: l in Hindī, everyone knows Pretty Simple. ḷ in Marāṭhī and some other languages, few people know how to pronounce it correctly. First layer of complexity! ḻ in Malayalam, Different than ḷ, and very few people know the actual pronunciation, obviously excluding me Second layer of complexity!]

They generally don’t ask random questions like coastline of Spain. She must have said she loves to travel in Spain by boat or something like that.

I feel MBA is just another wave same as of Engineers during 2000s 😂

Even the questions in upsc ask about countries and boundaries but literally how many coastline in Spain is really crazy, the other 2 were answerable even though the language one was quite tricky because one need to have that kind of brain to remember it point to point. Management school interview doesn't check your GK, they check how you handle uncertainties and these type of questions are to check how calmly you handel things you dont know

General Knowledge is for General People. Specialised Knowledge is Important.

Not all are GK. The municipalities question is a logic question. Number of states in US or Number of congressional seats? and then think if this is number of seats, how many municipalities will be there. Spain question: Coastline - Either going towards UK and reaching Nordic side, or towards Africa side and will cross Portugal. This is Geography question. In short, how smart you can think when put in a spot

Instead of kozhikode , u can also call Calicut. Now don't mispronounce it ☺️

These are critical thinking questions, so you’ve to ideally showcase to the panel how you think. Of course you don’t know the number of municipalities but, Considering 50 states, you then assume 5 big cities per state which would have its own municipalities and a few clusters, so assume 1 municipality for 3-4 smaller towns. Basically you try to show that you can think strategically and start from somewhere. The river in India question is GK but you can deduce yaar. Spain wala again is something where you’ve to show some logical thinking

To all the people who don't know shit about management exams but still saying absurd things like the institutions are not yet matured, or the panelists think of them as upsc panelists, these type of unknown questions are asked intentionally, to check the attitude of candidate in a difficult situation and where he or she is put under pressure to see how he or she handles the situations, you are not actually expected to answer all of them correctly.
