Interview: Discussing Baltic's new Aquascaph GMT with Founder Etienne Malec
We recently had the opportunity to speak with Etienne Malec, Founder of Baltic watches, about their new line of GMT's. Etienne tells a bit more about the inspiration behind the new GMTs and Baltic as a brand. We also dive into their earlier 2020 releases.

What a beautiful story. The fact that the connection to his father is through his watches is both fascinating and heartbreaking. Clearly sparked a passion in him to create the Baltic brand. Makes me want one even more!
Baltic went from a Seagull to a Miyota 9 to a Swiss in less than 3-4 years! I've always thought their watches deserved a better movement, but I hope they don't cut off from the miyota9 range completely.

The Seagull (Chronograph manual winding) , Miyota (3 hands-date automatic) and Soprod (GMT) don’t have the same purpose. It’s not the same complication. That said I think, Selita movements would be a great improvement... maybe still a bit early for that...
Thanks for the interview I think it's really great that etiennes fathers collection helped start his company, not only the seed of the idea, but financially as well... The aquascaphe range are beutifull watches, you have done a great job with them..
Nice to hear the founder of this interesting young brand tell his story; strange that I didn’t find this before since I’ve been watching various reviews of Baltic watches on YT and watch forums. I really like their design language and I’m planning to purchase my first Baltic, the Aquascaphe Classic, very soon. I hope they’ll stay true to this type of designs as they keep growing as a company, it’s nice to have a brand that manages to design vintage style watches without copying a specific famous watch, but rather blending various historical design elements into it’s own style. That’s not an easy thing to do and they deserve credit for that.
Blake... awesome vid. Etienne, you are a very genuine person. Thank you for sharing your story with everyone 🙏
Need to see a head to head with the Lorier Hyperion. Baltic and Lorier GMTs have smashed it out the park. Beautiful watches

It's a matter of preference but I like Baltic better, I feel it has more refined aesthetics which is surprisingly uncommon. Even the high end luxury watches, I often find their designs just plain ugly.

Yeah for sure it would depend on your taste: Baltic is more a 40’ vintage design inspired as Lorier is more 50’-60’. They each have their own style for their entire brand collection. I just love them both.
I absolutely love the quality from Baltic Watches, I hope to be a supporter and hope too that more people can discover their great time pieces of brilliant quality and affordability combination...
Great interview! I really would like to see the GMT prototypes.
Really looking forward to receiving my purchase of the Baltic GMT11GRBL11 which is the Grey Blue on rice bracelet. This watch has the Soprod C125 GMT movement. I like the looks of many Baltic watches but, not the Miyota 9039 movement. Maybe an upgrade should be considered for those watches with the non Swiss movement.
Looking nice, these watches and the new gmt from Lorier are competing each other
