The Giant Magnet is like HAL 9000: it is programmed to finish the mission at all costs, and will destroy anything that prevents it from doing so.

This is awesome stuff. The Brave Little Toaster is such a great film that gets overlooked based on the cover. The variety of antagonist-type characters in it is impressive, and they all manage to be sympathetic in one way or another. So much care was put into bringing these appliances to life. Thanks, Jerry Rees and everyone who worked on the movie.

Whenever I thought about that film and the crew that made it, I cannot help but seeing both Rob and Chris as reflective of the people that made the film.

This is so cool! Great to hear how much affection he still has for the material after all this time. Listening to you two lovingly dissect the film feels just like watching the toaster being carefully repaired. I can just picture rows of modern, streamlined, studio animated films looking on at this janky old cartoon wondering if anyone in the future will ever love them that much.

that magnet is like hal 9000.(even his eyes disappearing, with how intense he felt glowing in rage felt like he was going primal.) always loved how the're different antagonist throughout the movie as it reminds me of a studio ghibli movie(especially remembering always getting hyped as a kid when on my brave little toaster vhs it got to kiki's delivery service.:3) having villainous but understandable characters and almost worse jerks to straight up innocents in a different perspective.

I would do anything to meet everyone who was involved in this movie because this is my favorite movie I know all the songs and I remember most of the words from it. I used to watch this movie over and over and over again when I was younger and even though I was born in 2002 it still means a lot to me. I believe this movie also gotten me inspired in old retro technology and I find old appliances very interesting I even have a small collection of old things like a few cameras, a tape recorder, and and old electric typewriter and I’m planning and hoping I can grow my collection in the future. But even if no one from the movie will see this I want to thank them for making this movie and for being apart of my childhood. 😁

It's so cool that you got to interview Jerry Rees not once but twice! The Brave Little Toaster really does feel like an underdog movie, one that thankfully has a dedicated cult following so people don't forget about it (or at least, show there's more to it than it's scary moments).

This movie is way smarter than it comes across. It's a about toaster that's just stupid. No the fact that anyone can make a story about a toaster takes true talent. It's deeper than it seems how to a kid the objects around are new to you and as time goes on you remember them cuz they were first experience to life and the world around you and after they're gone they have a meaning that gives theyre existence a stronger purpose. Being a memory long after you're gone means you meant something to someone. That's what gives everything a meaning. Cuz that's the only proof you existed being remembered.

You know, other than Toy Story or Brave Little Toaster, Cars, Thomas and Friends is one of those books/series that explores the price of progress and the feeling of obsolescence. The feeling of "Am I still useful in a world that keeps advancing, and I'm just a product of something no longer as relevant as I was." But there is still that bit of hope that there's still appreciation for that stuff. Even if it's mostly niche at best and not everyone else in general. Though it does become contentious and complicated when real world history and politics gets mixed in. Sure, it's needed to understand the context of it, but then paranoia can kick in when certain people use it as a weapon to attack and make things unnecessarily divisive. Plus, it's nice he acknowledged John Lassetter's early draft which I little disappointed that Colin forgot to acknowledge when talking about the production history of this movie. 32:28

When Jerry Rees started talking about smartphones and the right to repair, it actually reminded me of the DTV sequel ''The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars,'' and the "built to fall apart" Wonderlux Appliances. I did read on TVTropes that Rees and Deanna Oliver (Toaster's voice actress) didn't watch that film because it was a cheapquel, but like An American Tail 3: The Treasure of Manhattan Island, it actually seems to be one of the very few direct-to-video cheapquels that actually adds some kind of meaningful commentary that builds on the themes of the first film.

The appliances R like a dysfunctional family. Blanky's the small child, Radio's a chatty grandfather, Lampy's the mean older brother, Toaster's the good natureed mom & Kirby's the grouchy dad.

I’m actually working on a real life version of some scenes of Brave Little Toaster, using stop motion animation with real appliances that look as much as possible like the ones in the movie. I’m doing the air conditioner scene and the B movie scene. I’m about 1/3 of the way through it now. I have a preview of it on my channel. It’s on the end of my Chris Christie Simpsons parody. In my version, the repair guy is a ham radio operator, as a tribute to my dad. Even though they didn’t show any ham radios in the movie, I couldn’t imagine that guy actually wasn’t a ham operator.

And also, what if the Magnet also doesn't want them to get away? Otherwise, that would encourage other appliances in the dump that may still be semi-functional to escape too. But then why didn't he attack Chris for pulling a part off a car?

How did TBLT get a G rating? The clown. The Dr Frankenstein sadist stabbing the blender, with blood. The air conditioner. *THE MAGNET.* All of Worthless. Some of TBLT is on a par with The Plague Dogs (another of my all-time fav animated flicks).
