Interview Advice From Blackstone's CEO

Interview Advice From Blackstone's CEO // I just finished up the book What It Takes: Lessons in the Pursuit of Excellence by Stephen Schwarzman, the Chairman, CEO, and co-founder of the Blackstone Group.
If you're not already aware, Blackstone is one of the largest owners of real estate in the world with a global portfolio value estimated at over $375 billion, and with that, the company is also one of the most desirable places for aspiring real estate professionals to start their career.
However, getting your foot in the door isn't easy, and the odds are stacked against you.
For the incoming 2018 class of junior investment analysts, the company received 14,906 applications for just 86 spots, putting the company at a 0.6% acceptance rate for their incoming class of new hires.
To get in at Blackstone, you have to be good. Really good.
And in this book, aside from just chronicling the growth of the company itself, Schwartzman also took the time to lay out a few key pieces of career advice for people looking to land one of the few coveted positions that Blackstone has to offer each year, some of the most interesting of which were specifically tailored towards the interview process, and what the author personally looks for when interviewing candidates.
So, if you're looking to land a job at Blackstone (or another real estate firm of a similar caliber), this week's video will break down three of the most essential pieces of interview advice I took away from reading this book, and how you can implement these same principles to stand out on interview day.

Last one caught me off guard, too - makes so much sense, but I've never heard someone articulate it as well as it was said in this book. Glad you enjoyed the video!
