Unmistakeable 60s and 70s icon. So much style and individuality and sold in such quantity.
I grew up near Smith Pies in Pottstown Pa. they had a fleet of those things, many people ended up buying them and some are still around.
I did my road test in a transtar with an 8v71 13 speed, way back in 1987
Nice old Corn Binder. I have owned a few of those. It will look good when he finishes it. Good video.
I LOVE the top mounted wipers! So cool! My dad drove for a small leasing company here in Orlando when I was in my early teens. (I was 14 in 1980) He drove a tandem Transtar II. I don't remember the model year. It was plain white with a burgundy interior, a 10 speed and a screaming Detroit 318. It had black Alcoa style 5 "spoke" wheels. I don't know how to describe those. . I think it was in about 1979. I got to ride on several trips within Fla. I LOVED riding in that hardworking, bouncy, good, honest work truck! I loved it when it rained, just so I could see those upside down wipers running! I mistakenly called it "Cornhusker." By about 1980, my dad got assigned a 1975 dark blue Pete cabover with a turboed 350 Cummins. He drove that until the company owner passed away. Petes were always dad's favorite. Then, he started driving for Bowman Transportation. They had these late 1960's military green White cabovers with Cummins engines. I think they were called 4200's or 7200's. I can't recall. I dug the old Whites, but the Transtar ll is actually my all time favorite truck. Tough as nails, no frills, just a good, honest work truck. I lost my dad David Creel this past May. He was 86 and long retired. But my fondest memory when I was a teenager was riding in that bouncy Transtar ll heading down some old 2 lane road, grinning ear to ear as I watched my dad smiling and shifting seamlessly like a natural. I'm sorry for being so long winded, Dane. Thanks a million to you and your friend Eric for sharing his Cornbinder with us! Made my day.

Cool story, that's how a bunch of drivers became drivers. Glad you enjoyed your rides. I got to not only ride in a 1964 Crackerbox, I actually drove one about 8 years later. Ok it was a 1965. Anyway it was kind of fun.

@@bertgrau3934 Cool! I have a background in civil engineering drafting and playing bass. I wasn't allowed to become a driver because of my Type 1 diabetes. I couldn't possibly climb up into even a conventional tractor now, because of stroke damage. But I really cherish riding in those old workhorses! Dad taught me all about the Crackerboxes and the old "Cherrypicker" Macks. I mostly liked the 1970's and earlier trucks. Solid stuff.

@@michaelcreel534 Sir, I'm sorry you couldn't be a driver. I enjoyed it , the last 2 years were the worse for me. I had to deal with truck brokers that didn't know what they were doing. I figured after 44 years that was enough. I don't miss the stupid stuff. The people I worked with ( other than the brokers) I enjoyed.

@@bertgrau3934 Thank you! My dad was at his peak in his 40s and 50s. He was a friendly man who enjoyed telling you about people and places. He was never an owner operator, but he considered it. He probably drove for 40 years. But while he enjoyed truckstops, diners and making friends, he would speak up and tell me when he had to deal with idiots. And there were quite a few! I honestly don't like trucks from the 1990's-2000's. I'm 56 now and I think I've become "That guy." 😆 I like the "real" trucks: when cabovers stood tall; not those low front monstrosities with the front wheels set back! Not the plastic panels, etc.! We were at a truck show probably in the early 1980's. There was a nice looking conventional Freightliner and we looked inside: stunned to see an automatic gear selector! My dad said, "Hell, no!" 😄
Beautiful truck, thanks for giving us a look. As a kid I spent many an hour assembling the ertl truck model kits. Best part was deciding on paint schemes, painting them up just right, then assembling them. I can still smell the testors model glue/cement. Maybe someday you can put together a step by step as to the process you use when looking at trucks to restore and how much time and resources are required for this “hobby “. Keep on trucking!
I have a collection of plastic model Transtar trucks. Not many real ones around anymore, especially in running condition. Awesome rear mud flaps, nice job polishing the tanks, stack, bumper and front wheels. I really like what he's done so far. Thanks for bringing him on your show. A1

I Loved Driving the 4070 Cabovers. The Best Trucks I Ever Drove. 🥰
That truck has a remarkable cab for having sat out in a field for years. I can't believe how nice the headliner and panels in the bunk are. I fondly remember when I worked in the truck stop right after high school, all the great old trucks. Lots of Transtars went through there every day. Thanks for another great episode.
Nice truck my step dad had a tandem IH 8V71 TURBO 13SPEED OVERDRIVE back in the mid 1970s brings back lots of state side driving hauling ceramic tiles as far south as Arkansas thanks for the video Dane

Started my semi driving career in one of these, same Shiney 290, 10 speed . Rode behind that steering wheel from coast to coast for many years in the 70's and early 80's. Interiors all looked the same. Thanks for the memories.
Love the international cabover's 9670s and back👍 My stepbdad drove a 88 for probably 6yrs and loved that truck. Went on many miles with him as a kid. Miss it everyday. Had a 425 cat and a 13spd.
I drove one had a 470 Detroit pulled tanker and I loved that old girl!! He's got a great start 👍!!!
There’s a video on KZread of a thirteen letter shit spreader cab over with a Detroit. The cameraman rode along and the video took place in Guatemala. It’s worth watching.

There's nothing wrong if the smoke is black, I would turn some fuel to the Cummins to help them pull better on hills. And if your careful it gets better fuel mileage as well.
Back in 93/94 I drove one of these. Same color combo.. Had a twin screw and it had a dump body on it. Think it was an old grain truck. The guy that owned it when I drove it had a transfer station here in Clearwater, Fla. I hauled a lot of C&D with it. Mainly old roofing tear offs. Did 2 or 3 loads a day to the landfill. Wish I had a picture of it.. After that I bought a used 90 International 8300 and an alfab dump trailer and hauled two loads a day for him. Up at 3AM to beat the DOT man. Back then they weren't out till 5AM so I had to get up the road with my waaaaay over weight load.. AHHHHHHH Good times.. 😬👍

I love it Transtars and Transtar 2s are a truck of my childhood. Turner & Coyner Lumber had about 10 Henry &Henry Monument Co had about 10. 1 of theirs was a tandem flatbed that towbar pulled A rough terrain forklift backwards for setting Tombstones. They still supply Tombstones all over the country. Watsons Livestock Haulers all in Marion KY. Ligon had Red White and Blue ones running flatbeds and Specialized out of Madisonville KY. I had a fleet of the ERTL Transtar 1/16 scale toy trucks I think I had 20 different ones.

Drove a little single screw just like that in the 80’s, pulled 26’ doubles hauling roofing, super sacked materials and many loads of 90lb sacks of cement. I was 5’7 back then, and it was the only style of Cabover that ever for me perfectly. Very comfortable.

That’s my favorite kinda truck the old 4070 model
DANE great tractor and video
I drove an older Transtars COE sleeper single axle. Had louvers and a front wheel limiting valve. Interesting to see the improvements on the newer model 79'.
The first OTR type truck I drove in 1978 (it was a rental as we were down several trucks at the time) Later when I went to peddle runs (such as Phoenix to Tucson or to Flagstaff and back) they leased one from Ryder. It was quite an experience getting used to that first day or so. Great memories. He's doing a great job and I'm sure will have head turners and horn honkers down the road.
I owned and operated a 1977 Trans Star 2 back in 1997 it had a 290 with a 13 speed, I had a wet kit on it and pulled a dump trailer it was a good old truck they were very popular in their day.

Thank you for sharing this 79’ International Cabover video. This brings back memories of my Uncle’s International Cabover. It was this similar type of truck I got to ride in with my Uncle Joe. It was an International semi truck that I was first in as an eight or ten year old. Very nice international
Eric's got agreat truck...........clean and unmolested for it's age . I put a few miles on a 4070 , 8V71N and 13 speed back in '88 . My only complaint was poor airflow on a 90* day with windows down .
Great looking 4070. Quite partial to single drives.
If that came out of Rhode Island, quite possibly was a Paul Arpin Van Lines truck .

One thing I didn't like about the international, the dash was so plain. In later years, they put the fake wood trim in, that looked much better. I put a lot of miles on the 290 Cummins, and 10 speed. I drove a 1977 Transtar from California to NYC. Hauled produce. I hated refeer trailers. Just a pain. Good video Dane !
Rare to see a single rear sleeper Transtar 2. I found one recently sitting on IN-9 in LaGrange, IN. It's a single rear sleeper that set up for towing mobile homes. Not sure if it's for sale.
Maybe I'll be able to bring a binder to the lounge one day.

That old girl looks to be an excellent starting point. It’s in really good condition for it’s age. The interior looks to be in good shape and except for a few pieces all there. One thing I noticed tho is he needs a stack cross support going over to drivers side frame rail that’ll stiffen up the upright so it won’t crack at the bottom. But heck that’s a minor thing could probably make one if you couldn’t find one. I myself never was a fan of those wipers up top seemed like they always drifted down on me. I like that style of roof light look cool especially with that style visor. That’s gonna end up being a cool truck when he gets it done!

Where do you get the cab bushings? The ones on my 78 are good for now but may need replacement one day
Why it’s called a Cornbinder is because you’d have the Build sheet which tells you what parts used. Hence they ran out of parts assembling 🤷🏼♂️ = leftover parts get it off assembly line When I’d go to Dealer I’d give them the build sheet they said NOPE doesn’t match b sheet Farm Maid 😉😂
