In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, New Orleans’ vibrant population included African Americans, Creoles, French, Spanish, and immigrants from around the world. This unique blend of cultures and traditions formed a rich musical environment that set the stage for the birth of Jazz. Recognizing Jazz as a uniting force for peace, empathy, and understanding, and its sense of inclusion and equality, UNESCO designated April 30 as International Jazz Day.
