My grandpa had a 915 for years and it was one of the best combines I can remember. My grandpa was a strictly RED guy. Everything he used was RED. IH all the way. I learned to drive his 1066 turbo when I was 9. Great memories I’ll cherish forever

Man I remember when we got our brand new 915 in 1976....We called that big 6 row beast "State of the art" . Thanks for the memories BTP

We were proud of ours, we always had cleaner corn than them deers did! The big boys could do it faster, but ours looked better.

@@chuckgross6024 just about any combine brand is better than the Deere's, mostly due to putting grain out the back of them, but from what I have noticed, they didn't clean the grain as good as the IH combines do.

Sharp Shooter, you would think it would be the opposite, and the newer combines would do a better job of cleaning, but I've noticed the same thing quite often. Honestly most of it is due to a lack of setting them up right, or too lazy to make changes. Some guys set their combine's once and never mess with them again, unless they are changing crops. I've always made changes daily, depending on the yield between fields and usually from morning to afternoon you have to speed up and slow the fan down, and at times make small rotor speed changes. This younger generation just wants to get in and go, and there isn't a lot of small farms left, and the big guys just set them up and go, and don't take time to make changes and get out and see the type of job they are doing. The smaller farmers tend to take more time to do a good job.

@@somersfarm1921 I wouldn't blame the younger generation I farm and work part time at a elevator young old doesn't matter most say that it's a waste and loss of money to make clean grain I enjoy the fun of seeing how clean of sample I can make gives a little extra challenge

I worked at the plant that built those machines, in East Moline, Ill. I started working at that plant in 1974 and got laid off in in 1983. The building does not even exist anymore!

I still have an 815 in the barn. Most of our crops are harvested as silage for dairy cows so the combine doesn't get used as much anymore. I didn't know they cost so much when they were new. I paid 1500 for mine after I got out of high school.

Dang, I enjoy seeing those old machines running in the fields. That brings me back to my youth. That is a very clean sample of corn. Awesome video.

I remember as a kid, my uncle running an IH 715 combine. Not as many luxuries as the 815. Manual swing unloading auger, gear drive transmission, and gas engine, 3 row corn head. Harvesting corn always seemed slow in that machine! Thanks for another great video!

I grew up on 915's. Absolutely loved these combines. They had the best cleaning system in the business at that time. Always had clean grain samples. Lots of moving parts and a little high maintenance, but overall we're great combines. We ran one up into the early 2000's. Would love to see a 915 harvesting wheat. I know there are still a few around.

Aint no way id run one that nice with the door open . But im a stickler for a/c on vintage equipment. Not hard to make them work and cool well. But thumbs up on this one. Now go find us a 915.. thanks

We had three of those. All had 8-30” corn heads and 24’ platforms. Those Flogrip deep treaded tires on them wouldn’t get them stuck! Eventually they all got traded on 1480’s. I still love the 915’s, we’re good combines for us.

Thanks for posting this,I drove a 915 in MN in 1984 while on an agricultural exchange from NZ.We never saw this series here,but then the axial flows arrived and were very popular, still are.

Wow, that is some low hours, that is extremely rare for that old of a machine, that combine is in great shape. My ex-inlaws had a 715 combine they ran for many years, and it rarely had any issues. Friends of ours use to run 2 915's back in the day, that farmed across from our farm. That Case970 is ins great shape too. We had a 970 with a loader back in the day, that was white, that we planted and cultivated with and a cream colored 770 with a loader before that. Our first IH combine was a 1460 on our farm, but I remember people saying to stay away from the IH 815's, I forget what the supposed weak link was on them, I just remember guys saying go with a 715 or 915 and to stay away from the 815's.

Just a few acres each year. This farm mostly raises tobacco and a few acres of corn for rotation.

I'm only a few years older than this machine and it is in far better condition than I am! Great looking combine!

Had a 815 gas that caught fire and replaced it with a new 815 diesel. Farmed in Wisconsin at the time. Loved that machine. Opened a semi dealership in California after that.

What a beautiful vintage machine. Even his grain trucks in the background look like mint vintage equipment. Really enjoy seeing that.

This brings back some old memories. Our neighbor in northern ontario had 2 of these which was unheard of in the late 70s in northern ontario!!. They did custom work for my dad and i loved these machines!.

@@bigtractorpower I dug up the only toy i kept from childhood after watching your video. I cherished the 815 solid international combine toy my mom bought me for christmas in the 70's lol. If i knew how to send you the pics of it I would. Anyway, its time to display it properly.

Grandpa bought a new 815 in 1973! Traded off a 303! They had to show him how to use hydrostatic drive he wasn’t use to that! Brother always use to climb in back and clean the cobs out of straw walkers! Ran a rock in it cost a 1000 dollars to fix back then still have the rock😂

Dad bought a 715 new, one of the last ones at the dealership as axial flows took over. He ran that machine for 16 years. It wore out and he retired. Can’t tell you how many rounds I made sitting on a Folgers coffee can as the buddy seat. Back when small grains where still popular he would get custom work. Much better in small grains than the axial flows.

They sure don't make 'em like they used to. Solid built, made to last. Absolutely love these old machines. Cheers :)

I remember these being brand new on my local IH dealers lot.

Hey, quit making me get emotional and teary eyed. I ran an IH 403 in corn for my uncle in '74, actually I was used to a JD95 in wheat. I found harvesting corn quit different from the aspect the 100 acre field had some bind weed in it and about every 10 to 20 acres I had to stop and get under the head to clean off the rollers, but the machine itself ran great, this was a farm near Mulvane, KS. Good memories. Uncle passed away a few years ago, but he gave me an opportunity I'll never forget.

I grew watching a 95EB. Filming a 95 is on my wish list. The 70’s was a great time in farming. I enjoy trying capture that GM history when I can still find it in the field.

I rode with my dad in a 815 when I was a kid I always liked riding the combine with dad the first combine I got to drive on my own was an 915 when I was in the seventh grade I loved that machine the 414 engine with the turbo was very powerful I then moved on to a 1480 it was ok but under powered next we had a 1992 1680 it was one of the best machines I have ever run finally wore it out and now I run an 02 2388 it's an great machine also

Great Red Combine history. My neighbor had a 915 when I was a kid. It had such a great sound. He went to a 1460 that he ran for many years and then to a 7088. I just filmed a 2004 2388 this weekend harvesting soybeans. I hope to find a 915 to film sometime.

Awesome BTP... pretty sure we had an 815 before the TR70... I was in high school then, first combine I ran independently was the TR70... Huge game changer from that 815 to the TR70... Amazing times...Asked dad and we think that 815 was a diesel,,, the TR70 had a NA 3208 CAT...

Finding the classics is my favorite thing to film.

Excellent memories relived. I'm 45 and grew up on a farm and working on a couple other local farms and the one farm I worked on he had an IH 815 identical to that.

Very nice. We are the same age. A farm on the road I grew up on had 915 way back when. It was cool to see. Today the same farm has a 7088.

I can believe!!! And in 1980 s my Father and We picked the corn with machete and hands! And today still same way, in El Salvador

Wow. Quite a trip down memory lane between the 815 and that old Case on the grain cart.

The 15 series have a stand out look.

Real good to see the old iron. We had a 1975 615 that we bought from the original owner in 1979 and just sold it a few years ago. It was serial number 12001 the very first 615 with the quick attach heads. That year they made 12500 615's but only the last 500 had the quick attach heads but the next year they all had them. We always kept it inside and it had only been rained on three times it was just as nice if not nicer than this 815.

Very cool. The 715 remained in production through 1979 until the 1420 was ready to replace it in 1980. The 615 and 715 were very popular sellers for IH.

I grew up on those machines. Love that sound.

We had an 815 when I was a kid back in the 1980s. I thought it was the coolest thing ever made, me and my brother used to climb all over and play on it. Sure would love to have it today even to just do a few rounds a year in.

This brings back memories of the family farm growing up! My dad had one of these and my uncles ran a 1460 which I also spent many weekends in growing up.

Excellent video that combine is in amazing original condition! It was very enjoyable to watch. Thank you for the work you do bringing us videos like this

Good information as always on the featured machine. Hard to believe just how far combines have come in 40 years. Always enjoy seeing the old equipment working in the field. Man the memories lol, now I remember why it took us so long to get the crops out🤣 we had both the gas and diesel version. Man that old gasser was scary! I was always afraid of a field fire! That 815 was a huge step up from the 4400 jd. Lol good times.

I had the white top 814 pull combine pulled by a 1466 IHC tractor. It was a good combination for me and never had much trouble with it at all.

Had one for many years was a good combine. Would love to get in the driver's seat for a day!

I had one just like that, except it was a grain and maize special. Ran it with a 4 row corn head and a 20' grain header. Great machine! The one we had also had very low hours, under 2000 if I remember correctly.

That was a great dump on the go. These gentlemen have been doing this for a while ;). I like the classic dualled Agri King Case, too.

The 970 Agri King deserves a video all to itself. It is a cool tractor.

I grew up riding and learning to drive on just like that. My Uncles had that and a 715 Good machine and thank you for the memory.

This machine may not be state of the art but if it allows the farmer to harvest his crop on a timely basis, he saving himself a ton of money when considering the cost of a new machine.

Now if you could just get that fresh picked corn smell to come out of the speakers. Excellent video !

Ran an 815 in the early 80s…. Had to leave the door open, too

Wow! That was so neat!! Love to see this guy in the national corn grows contest competition against the multi-million dollar equipment. I think that would be really neat.

Man -- what a great video, and what a 1970s era machine in such great condition (and if you look at the farmer's other equipment -- also in beautiful condition). That said: IH probably took a bath on it's 15 series machines. (fast forward to the last line if TL:DR). My first job out of college, I worked for a small custom wheat harvesting crew out of Seward Nebraska. The owner ran Gleaner (L2's) ; it's a business now in it's 3rd generation--still running Gleaner. (this is not a Gleaner commercial). Anyway, during a lull in the action, the owner and I were having a conversation about combine/history. My step dad had a Massey 27 and a last-model John Deere 95; a lot of people where I grew up (in great plains wheat country) either ran Gleaner, Massey or Deere. In laws ran Massey. You NEVER saw a New Holland combine, though they have survived and prospered as a combine company. Anyways, during this conversation, my boss/the owner said pretty pointedly: "Until IH came out with their 1400 series rotaries you could count on one hand the number of custom cutters using IH combines." Given that he had run up and down the country harvesting wheat his whole live, I think his observation was pretty credible. The 815 was IH's SECOND biggest machine, and Deere's 2nd biggest combine at the time, the 6600, just absolutely owned in terms of capacity (6-row) and popularity.

My family had the 815 just like that one plus a 715 at the time and still even picked ear corn with a 234 and on 756 did lots of custom work usually the 815 and 234 picker would do all the corn and the 715 was bean machine . Then the 7-815 were traded for a 1440 and 1460 those first hand built axial flows were nothing to brag about lots of problems so they were traded for the 1st full production models

Neighbors had an a 815 new. Biggest p.o.s ever. He was true red machine fan only but this one about made him change lol. Even demo'ed a New Holland. It was a lemon from new even though others had excellent luck. Seriously it was broke down more often than not. He traded it for one of the very first 1460 as soon as they came out and that same 1460 is still running today on another nearby farm.

Great video and a great looking machine. I love seeing these old pristine machines still running. Though it's still hard to beat a Gleaner of the the time period with the electro over hydraulic functions warning system and grainbin size.

I have a gleaner about the same vintage I believe it's a 1980. It's an f2 I run 13 ft grain table and a four row corn head on it. I put about as many hours on as that guy with that 8:15 but I'm not as fortunate I didn't get mine new it's good machine. I'm a big fan of red paint I could have found an 8:15 like that or even 7:15 like that and that kind of shape with that little hours is probably bought it instead of the cleaner we use are straw to bid or beef cattle herd in the winter so I didn't particularly want a rotary. Never was a big AC man but I sure like my gleaner

That is one clean 815! My mother's family had a 715 that he either bought new or close to new. He ran that machine a LOT of years! Dad had a 542 Oliver then and it had been so wet they both went together to a sale in Franklin KY and bought them each a set of rear turf tires off some state tractors and put those on the back of both those machines.

Fascinating machine. 1300 hours in 44 years is 30 hours per year, if it was used every year. Figure about 25 hours picking corn and the rest moving around or unloading. Figuring 10 feet swath by about 6 feet per second (4 MPH) gives 3600 square feet per minute or 216,000 square feet per hour, or about 5 acres per hour. So they must harvest around 125 acres per year.

Well cared for machinery . Excellent video

A couple of things to add. This combine was pushing a 943 corn head not an 843 as mentioned. Same basic head but newer model with aluminum gear boxes making it lighter weight. Also this 815 was referred to as a "Low Profile) Ser. 8000 and above and I think only available with the D414 Diesel. If I remember correctly (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) the "High Profile" 815 ser below 8000 was available with the V-345 gas or a diesel D-407. It may have been the High Profile 915 that used the had those 2 options. Any old timers like me can confirm?

We used a high profile 815 with the "407" engine. I dont remember the year of the combine, but i know it was an early one. We used it from the early 80's thru 1999. Very good reliable machine

My friend has one of these in operating condition with a 5 row corn head and I want to say 14ft platform header.. it's just sitting out in the weather now

That was pretty darn cool, old school.

She’s the definition of a cream puff. Always liked how IH did that steering column. Kept the platform a lot more clear of clutter.

This farms primary crop is tobacco. They raise a few acres of corn for rotation.

Very clean looking grain sample, Cleaner than most of the new combines.

How is it that the combine has such low hours after al these years? Do they only farm a few acres (which would seem to make the cost of it new not very practical) or do they have several other combines they have used since buying this one and mostly use this one for hobby type farming/use since buying it? The condition for its age is outstanding and was great to see.
