I had a few of these transtars with big cam cummins. Too much ether made them harder to start. Just one or two sniffs were plenty. Any more than that you would risk locking up a piston or two and throwing a connecting rod. What great tractors they were. I enjoyed driving them!

@@Dee12327 True, crank for 30 seconds then let set for at least 60 seconds. Myself, I prefer to use another truck to air it up then pull start it if possible. Some trucks you can't air up unless there's a tire valve stem in the air tank. Installed many of those before. Seems pulling is easier on everything, batteries, starter, and wiring. Once pulled started an International with a 350 Cummins in 12 degree weather, aired it up, pulled it about 100 yards before it started the driver said it was turning about 1500 RPM. That's a lot of RPM for that much time. Truck had been setting for about a week.

You must keep your throttle to the floor when starting. This is an old school diesel motor. Keep your right foot planted to the floor until all 6 cylinders are firing. If not it will continue to stall. Shesh, youngn's. Have to teach you everything.

I seriously thought the cylinder head was going to launch into a low earth orbit with all the gas being sprayed into that engine. If it doesn’t start and run in a couple tries d then stop! Obviously there is something causing it from running especially when it has been sitting out in a field.

You can scrap this engine it's garbage... If a Cummins Needs loads of Ether to start it's a goner.... Only thing left to do is take it apart and overhaul it. I started a Cummins Ford Cargo which had been sitting for 30 years... It was -5 celcius.... Changed the oil/coolant filled the filters with a mixture of fuel and Wynns Diesel Injectorcleaner and in the fueltank a can of WD-40 (100L tank and a can of WD-40...) Fuelrack at 0/off 30 sec of cranking... Fuelrack at idle and she fired right up. She had 970.000km on the clock. I Should never have sold that engine the Bodywork was gone that engine was gold. Buut someone bought it for the right price.
