Internal Medicine Residency: UK vs USA

👩🏻‍⚕️👨🏻‍⚕️ Internal medicine training/residency is the starting point for most, if not all, medical specialties. Be it in the UK or the USA, a basic level of training (core) must be completed before progressing to a higher specialty training (fellowship).
🎤 We will be holding a live session with Dr. Ibreez Ajaz, who works as an internal medicine trainee in the UK, and Dr. Aiman Ajaz, who works as an internal medicine resident in the USA. The topics they will discuss are as follows:
✅ How to enter IM residency and duration of training
✅ Criteria to apply for training and how to increase chances
✅ Criteria to progress in residency
✅ Residency pay structure
✅ Working hours, vacation days, leave allocation
✅ What happens after residency
After these questions, the floor will open for a live Q&A. Please keep all questions relevant to the topic at hand. This live session will take place on March 20th, 2021, at 3pm UK time. Set a reminder so you don't miss out!

I'm still undecided whether to go the PLAB or USMLE route, I'm a fresh medical graduates and while the plab will be easier, both routes require a big financial investment so I'm very torn about the topic

In regards to the question on opportunities for MRCPs in the US - I have heard that if you do get matched residency in the US, they give you one year credit. Is this indeed the case ?

They would need to meet the competencies and person specification of the post and will also need to have completed MRCP. Please also see: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fqZh18iBqqech6w.html

It's hard to say! Currently GMC is only accepting it if you've done CS before March 2020.
