I thought it was lines from the book Pale Fire. (The book is in the movie)

There is something deep and disturbing about both baseline scenes. I could not stop thinking about this for a while after seeing the film. The rapid fire questions and the interwoven poem make for an intense barrage of the senses.

I thought a lot about it too. I think it's that like robots we're programmed by society, and the goverment to feel and think certain ways. Perhaps we program ourselves, and maybe we push away these feelings, and thoughts. The baseline test I think is about that to make us the viewer realize that these moments like holding your child is really what our lives about.. feelings. Idk

There is much we know about the mind and the nature of reality, memory, and the illusion of both self and time, that we do not have the cognitive , metaphysical, or lingual tools to really lay out bare in a linear format for all to "understand" It resonates because that small fractal of you that isn't is baselining too , as you gain some fact from a fiction. The fractals go both ways.

I did not manage to catch most of the questions or understand what the point of the test was. Could someone be so kind as to explain? I've heard a few people say that it's taken from the novel Pale Fire.

SOILERS Unlike the Voight-Kampff test which was used to rat out illegal replicants, nexus 9 models are integrated into society albeit in a more restricted manner. The baseline test is to insure, through a rapid barrage of thematic and philosophical questions, that these replicants haven't developped emotions or trauma like the older Tyrell Corp replicants. You can see how, through sentences that are similar in syntax (with the same words at the end) yet different in meaning, an individual could be put off or confused. For example, in the first baseline test, agent K (Ryan Gosling) flinches once at the question: "do you dream of being? Interliked." which could also be interpreted as "do you dream of being interlinked?":if the replicant had not repeated 'interlinked' that would entail that the thought of being interlinked had crossed or is crossing it's mind. Thankfully, our protagonist answers correctly be re-iterating the word "interlinked".

Additionally, the story of the novel Pale Fire reflects the story in BR2049: in the novel, the reader searches for the writers of the two identical poem verses in hopes of finding a 'supernatural' answer or cause, only to be disappointed and taken aback when one of them states he made an error and wanted to write 'mountain' instead of 'fountain' at the end of his poem, as the other writer had. In parallel, Agent K searches for the 'natural' replicant and thinks of himself to be it, only to realize he was the 'fake' of the two twins in the data base.

GiRayne I think you’re right I haven’t seen any other sentences that could grammatically confuse the replicants in the full text. Although I think this is the reason K flinched and I stand by it, ive seen a few others mention it on a sub-reddit when talking about the baseline test.
