Interior Door Makeover l Cheap & Awesome! 4K

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Interior Door Makeover video DIY. How to update and paint old hollow core doors to a modern black panel door. Step by step diy tutorial on updating a hollow core door into a modern 5 panel black door. This makeover is easy and cheap, requiring only basic woodworking tools. I use a Dewalt trim router and a 1/8 inch Router Bit to make the grooves. Sand the doors to remove the glossy surface, then give all 8 of my doors 2 coats of Tricorn Black Paint. A great way to update dated and old interior doors. Home renovations can be very expensive, but this door update is a great affordable solution. Cheers!

Thank you for such a great video, especially all of the instructions and recommendations that you gave. The routing idea is genius as every other solution seems to make a lot of work for rehanging the door and fixing the hardware. A pleasure to watch your process.

Excellent idea on routing the door. Can't wait to do this next time one of my customers is having me fix up their rental property. And timing is great, I've been looking at Dewalt cordless routers!!

Thanks, glad it was helpful. I use the trim router much more than I thought, rarely touch my plunge Router. Definitely one if my better tool purchases. 😊

Fantastic idea. Saw your video and thought, I can do that, ended up with 3 cupboard doors that have style. Had to buy a router as my saw did not give the desired results, but I practiced on the inside of the door. Used 1/8 router bit, set just under 1/8 deep and measured the spacing very carefully. Thank you for coming up with the idea and sharing, well done.

I love this!!!! I’ve been looking for the past hour for the perfect design and you hit the nail on the head…. Perfect. Thank you for making this video. BTW I will use All-in-One paint which I’ve used on doors before with great success and polished Chrome hardware…POP!

It looks great, however, making any kind of groves in a hollow door weakens the door. How is it holding up?

If done correctly, shallow grooves there is no issue. All doors are perfect other than scuffs etc. Thanks for Watching!

Ready to try this! There are so many types of router bits. What type do you suggest?

  • @DIYFotoWorks

I used a 1/4 inch spiral bit. The grooves are so shallow any straight or spiral bit will work. It does leave the edges rough, so sanding the grooves well is key to the finish. But I can tell you the results are impressive considering the cost.

How much would you charge to do this to 8 doors? I'm thinking of hiring someone bc I don't have power tools but don't want to get gypped.

That’s a tough question. I’m in Canada but would suggest it shouldn’t cost more than say 1/2 of new doors. But to be honest I used to build custom kitchens, but I’m not familiar enough with pricing and estimates to give you an accurate answer. So sorry, but good luck!

Hi, I started with 80 grit on my random orbital sander, either that or 60 grit to start. I finished at 120 grit, because the doors are painted I didn’t go finer. Thanks for watching!

@@lukemagda5026 they’ve held up great, no issues a few scuffs around one door handle (main door). As long as you sand the surface well, remove the glossy surface, and consider at least a satin finish for better durability, it’ll be great. Good luck and Thanks for Watching!
