Interior Design Trends That Need To Go! Gaudy Glam, Shiplap, Barn Doors and More!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, I go over the interior design trends that need to go! These are the trends that even in 2021, just won't die! Building on my last video I go over gaudy, glitzy glam, shiplap, barn doors, chippy paint and more. In addition I also go over some of the things that you might not have expected, like LED pendants that are just too contemporary and modern - even more me! I also answer the age old question: Should you hang your television above your fireplace? If it's too high above the fireplace then no you should not - as that is an interior design trend that definitely needs to go!

    I always adoooored that "Gaudy Glam" look and I still do, but lately my style slightly changed into a more vintage vibe, and I mean genuine vintage. Like let me replace my fridge with a genuine 1950s fridge, not just vintage inspired. I still love a major glam look thought if it's my "girl room", but I can't do that all over since I'm with my husband lol. Btw I should mention - When I do that glam look, I'm not going for elegant. I genuinely want it to look like a stripper sleeps in that space, that is GENUINELY my goal and I adore it lol. I'm not looking for elegant or classy. I'm looking for mega glam, stripper, burlesque star, "I'M GOING TO MY BOUDIOR GOOD DAY SIR" as I proceed to take off my over the top pink glove with fluff at the end and slap whoever I'm yelling at kinda vibe. I want it to smell like cheap cotton candy spray you would get from the dollar store in middle school and sparkle like a 1970s disco ball, if I give the impression that I'm trying to be classy, then I'm so very sorry loool.

  • @Catbirdmom2

    @Catbirdmom2

    Oh! But one is supposed to get those paintable covers for the cords so that they match the wall or floor. (I saw that on here somewhere. An overly self-important person was discussing the tackiness of cords as if everyone has floor outlets). I did get some because Alice the Roomba kept getting stuck on the cords and breaking things. They are neat and tidy and Alice isn’t pulling off lamps anymore. I got white like the baseboards and brown like the wood floor; your eye just glides over them. Highly recommend.

Our decor is a hodgepodge of original fixtures, family heirlooms from the last 150 years or so, antiques of various styles my parents found for cheap in the '80s, affordable plain wood or metal shelving units, cheap fixtures from Fleet Farm, and arts 'n crafts made by family members or us. My 2 cents regarding the subject; one, never mount electronics over a heat source (just think about it for a second), and two, most people mount their TV too high regardless of where they hang it. @@rixtunz3625 Two benefits of the barn door are: It may be a good place to stand if you are being shot at. The other, one of those nights where the power is out and you have to start burning furniture to stay warm. We have all seen them do it on TV. If the power is out the electric fire place is not going to help. The gas fire place served a purpose. Not everyone has the option so a TV over a fire place is about the only place for a TV in the living room. There are recommended highs for placing the TV for comfort. Not every one starts from scratch and $50,000 to decorate their house. If my furniture looked like some I see for sale I would ask for a discount or if it was a trade in.

    Some rooms make it difficult to have your seating convivial, facing your TV and giving your fireplace due prominence (odd to have seating ignore it). So often one of these has to be compromised. Housing just gets smaller and smaller in the UK and we had less square footage than most of Europe anyway.

    Take away is authenticity and intention. Barn Doors make sense if you live in open country, and need a utilitarian way of holding a door up. You as a farmer, ask your blacksmith friend to fashion a rail, and you with your limited carpentry skills hung a door with exposed hardware and driving in screws. Its novel, and its utility is its charm. If you live that life there is nothing wrong with barn doors. Hell apply that to anything. If you want to live in a Bali pan pacific inspired paradise replete with mango wood carved furniture, the head of a buddha, and focus on outdoor meets indoor living, maybe you shouldn't be punching into a clock located in Washington D.C. Save all that money and aggravation and go live there. Stop "decorating" your life and change it.

    Last year we had a beautiful stone fireplace installed with a wonderful oak mantel. I would never consider the boob tube over this great work of art! The tv (which I don't watch but my husband does) is on the other side of the room. I think of fireplaces are special pieces of furniture that shouldn't be sharing their space with a tacky television set! Just my opinion. :-)

    How about the trend to have everything in your house “neutral”. It seems like every KZread person is obsessed with this trend... neutral pumpkins...what’s wrong with orange, neutral bottle brush Christmas trees...green is a nice color...Neutral sofa, neutral rug, neutral candles, neutral vases, neutral throws and pillows...I could go on and on.💕😊

    Yes, these all-neutral rooms (with a few exceptions) lack body. As one designer said years ago (when people said the word “beige“ instead of calling it “neutral“), “people get everything beige because everything goes with beige but then they forget to get the everything that the beige goes with.” The only exception I’d grant is a really properly done scandi room. It has to be the right shade of white and have the perfect wood elements in there (medium in tone, plentiful in quantity).

They plan around kids, age, disability, geography (if it's a place that rains a lot and so on and so forth) and kinda ugly sentimental or practical items always gets a place that fits nicely. it's kinda a hit or miss cuz they change the designer every episode but it's usually pretty and livable :) The crew is the same tho, builders and painter and electrician etc.

    I think it's the people who like glitter on their faces who go for this look. Both are so over before they even started.
