About Johann Sebastian Bach
Bach was a German composer, organist, harpsichordist, violist, and violinist of the Baroque Era. He came from the largest family of musicians in music history, with well over 100 musical family members documented. Bach’s compositions include the Brandenburg Concertos, the Goldberg Variations, the Mass in B minor, two Passions, and over three hundred sacred cantatas of which nearly two hundred survive. His music is revered for its technical command, artistic beauty, and intellectual depth. Bach had 20 children in total, but only 10 of the children survived. By 1740, Bach was struggling with his eyesight, but he continued to work despite his vision problems. He died in Leipzig on July 28, 1750.
