INTENSE Severe Thunderstorm! (AWESOME Thunder) 6-12-13 (Chicagoland)

Ғылым және технология

Severe thunderstorm warning storm rolled through after 6 PM in Northwest Indiana. It got pitch black as you can see. Excuse the excess background noise later on.

A definite supercell there. I've never, even in the UK heard thunder that explosively boomy and loud realising it's due to positive lightning strikes which are rarer and more powerful. I remember the storm I saw in Florida in 2002 being like nothing I've seen in the UK. Thanks for sharing :)

That storm was something else. They said a tornado was gonna hit Wheaton, IL (where I live) but the whole thing blew over. The only thing it did was rain for about an hour. However, where my aunt lives, in Plainfield, IL there was a tornado warning. Their power went out for a bit, it was pouring rain and the winds were damaging. It's shocking how quickly it got dark in the video! I'm surprised the tornado sirens didn't go off in your town. Great video!

In 2011, I saw it was lightning to the northwest where I live and I stepped outside from my 72 degree apartment onto my deck and BAM! Instant lens fog over. That was because even at 1am, it was in the low 80's, dewpoints in the mid-70's and the heat index was still 101! A person can handle it somewhat during the day but at night, everyone just wants it to be cool. Severe storms did roll through during the 2am hour.

I use a product called JAWS (Job Access With Speech) by Freedom Scientific, and I've set my screen reader to speak each letter I type, so I can make corrections as I go along. You can even go online to freedom scientific dot com and download a demo version. It may take a little getting used to, but most people actually love it. Even some use similar screen readers to "read" to them, because they now have actual human voices. JAWS has Elloquence, and I think there are a few others in the demo, but I'm not sure.

Where I live in Wisconsin, we had some really powerful winds, lots of rain, and a lot of lightning. The power went out at around 7:30 pm, and came back on at around 2:20 am. We had one lightning strike right by my house, and the thunder was so loud an so instant, we thought it struck our roof. I only got video of the aftermath of the storm though. This is the second big wind storm that has happened in this area, and the second time the power went out for a long period of time this year.

Back when my profession was film making, we turned the camera OFF when we were randomly moving around, such as this young man when he went indoors, and turned it ON when we were pointing at something. Lots of people seem to leave the camera on, when walking and all we see is the ground and their feet. Do modern cameras not have the ability to stop and start?

Thankfully here in the UK power surges are almost non existent, due to each house having an BUFFER of sorts between each others power supply units. This stops any electrical wave thats over the grid level (240 volts) from attacking any appliance that is within the houses. Why don't you lot have BUFFERS?
