    Sealegs sounds great, and as you say you end up playing with it non-stop. It's almost impossible to leave it alone once you've started. One thing I'm not convinced about is the Color control, which I think Intellijel could have exaggerated the changing sound(s) a little more, would have made more sense. If you go between 0 and Full on, there's not so much difference in any of the modes (that I can hear).

    Woulda been nice if mod was default routed to all parameters and then the attenuverter pots controlled the amount of the default modulation. Instead of just routing to time. Then you could modate everything with just the built in mod and if another modulation source was plugged in to any of those inputs it would break the normal.

  • @mylarmelodies

    @mylarmelodies

    Жыл бұрын

    Basically Rainmaker is like a studio laboratory of delays, filters, pitchshifters and comb filter insanity - it’s a studio tool in that you’re gonna spend ages exploring settings and trying out weird things, and then it’s going to turn your signals into absolutely incomprehensible insanity or clouds of angels, and you’ll save that as a preset - whereas Sealegs is about quickfire access to deeply satisfying classic vintage delay vibes, what a 101 is to synths this is to delay is perhaps one way of thinking about it?! Id definitely prefer to have Sealegs in a live case - although I actually HAVE used rainmaker live a lot, but just pulling presets out!

Lot's of delay, compressor, amp, stutter, 303, 909, 808, synth and so plugins onboard @ 24bit, 192kHz sound from a Japan chip company (AKM). main motherboard looks pretty cool with a big cooler.

    I've had the One, and boy am I glad that I traded it in for Modular. The One to me is a glorious DAW-in-a-box. But I have PC with Ableton Live if I want that, which is wat more limitless. This Sealegs... And modular in general. I sit down, I patch, and I can play for an hour, getting lost in exploring sounds, switches, rhythms... It'll take a year more, and heaps of practice, but modular is so different than an MPC because it's just there, and I can immediately produce sounds with it. To me two Completely different beasts

    @@RobK496 Akai MPC is like a mini version of a Ableton, but with a high end soundcard inside, 8 CV out. even better than a PC with a Ableton because of the the (Japanese AKM ADC/DAC) soundcard inside, it even allows you plugin a USB coundcards and expand the outputs. updates are easy just download a file and place on a USB stick. i also have a mini modular with Math's, STO and home made modules like filters, logic, etc. it's cool to sample you modular at high resolution, 192kHz. / 24 bit and proceed freaking. 8 Cv out is alot of CV control for you modular you don't get anywhere else. or 4 Cv out and 4 gates. the effects inside are good. Also i can sample my cable provider TV box when i watch a movie with my MPC X, or a microphone. i also have a 25 years+ old Akai S3000XL with 8 outputs (original first owner) witch also has these Japanese audio chips. But this one has touchscreen, control your instrument like a smartphone with 2 fingers, much faster than a pc.

    Using a thing like Befaco InAmp (and out v3) modules, you can route the MPC produced sounds through your modular, so you have delay, stutter and all sort of effects and weird sounds inside you modular with additional CV control if wanted and route modular sounds in to and apply effects. "Sticking an audio cable, make a audio track and put monitor "on" than on the left side there is a XY icon and a XY axis screen appears, select an effect and you can control the effect with fingers, like a tape effect, delay, filters, etc, etc ... right on the sound from your modular and bring it back to your modular."

    Lots of reasons, short answer is I still do but I also want to try the TR8 to have a solid back line of handmade patterns with classic sounds

    😵 Do still love the Rainmaker but certainly this wins for immediacy (and vintage vibes) - Rainmaker is a bit more like a H3000, all manner of madness

    @@mylarmelodies True, that immediacy is really tempting. I love my Rainmaker (although it's always hand in hand with my WMD Fracture), but a lot of times I just end up noodling with it even when all I wanted is a simple delay. All those "This sounds good, but what if I do this...and that...let's try that too..." moments with it 😅

    Based purely on this demo (I obviously have not yet tried it myself), I'm not a fan of the digital model on this. The good vintage digital delay rack units had digital crunch, but they didn't have aliasing because they had filters for rolling off higher frequencies. Everyone's got their taste and not everything needs to sound faithful of course, but I'm in the "digital crunch without aliasing" camp. Otherwise this thing sounds amazing and looks really fun and playable.

    Remember this has filters for rolling off higher frequencies too! Recommend trying one somewhere if that’s an option for you, as with anything - tone is personal

    Only three modules fitting on that case bottom row minus the 2hp filler. And that’s actually all you need when Atlantis get a sequencer and effects.
