If Seo Misorang was my english teacher I would've studied more. Her pronounciation and delivery in speech are so clear even for non-native speaker like myself .

They wasn't awkward, the subject of debate wasn't decided, it was known before the 30 mins ago of this debate besides they weren't English native speaker, so it was hard for them to speak or think everything in English. It would have become easy if they would speak in their native language.

5 minutes is just the limit on each speech, also English isn't their first language and may find it hard to make 7 minute speeches on a foreign language

Im from the Philippines and I am quite shock about the 5 minute speaker time. I've been debating using BritPar and the given time for us is 7 minutes with the first and last minute as protected time. Im starting to wonder about the standard speaker time. Are we doing it wrong? Or they adjusted it to fit for the shows showing hours? Because honestly, there are times where that 7 minutes is still lacking to present all the arguments. And i really hope that Philippines could air inter-high debate or any debating programs.

Since i already placed my comment, here is my thought about the motion since Phil. Gov. once planned to lower the age of criminal liability to 9 - 15 years of age. it's true that juveniles still has time to grow and people can consider that the crime committed is a product of immaturity. But we should not neglect that Lady Liberty has her eyes closed which indicates that no one is excused becaused crime is a crime and law is a law. Legally, the court considers that an 8 year old child is already capable of making decisions (specially on cases of divorced parents where the child chooses which custody he/she wants to take). Yes, there is this thin line that separates a juvenile from becoming a criminal and ruining his future from turning a blind eye and tolerating the crime because the sad reality is that the status quo, the crimes done by juveniles are purposely done and several studies supports this claim because letting them slip results to the re-occurence of the crime because of the thought of having no or very little punishment. As an observation, the PM did very poor in this round together with his bench. I wasnt able to hear any definition and the status and the DLO took over his job. most of the substance came from the lower houses which could have been done by the upper ones and the usage of time is quite poor, the spare time coul have been an intensive discussion

becuase it is in a BP style, the lower half has to come up with arguments that differientiate themselves from the front half. If the front half speech was too long, the lower half would not have a chance

Watching this, I feel so bad for the incompetency of Filipinos when it comes to stuffs like these. That's because they commit ad hominem everytime. Not only that, they choose to invest their time in unnecessary things instead of sharpening their mind and gaining knowledge. I'm just happy I grew up with interest for this kinds of stuffs instead of wasting my time on watching those Jamill and Zeinab vlogs.

@@ajdg6509 just because you two watched 2 to 3 debates (which I believe is an unofficial/informal debate) doesn't mean all Filipino debates are like that. Honestly, Filipinos like you two are the toxicity we want to eradicate. You have committed hasty generalisation with that comment; clearly a fallacy and you want to make a point? Some debates are not in the web or can not be reached since it's not uploaded. I have seen ph debates and they're better (on par) than any of here. 🤦💁

Debate competition in PH are not filmed, clearly because it always has been a common and normal competition. Didn't you encounter such when you're still in high school? To be honest, filipinos are far better than most of the contestants here in this show even though the scope is only division level 😐

First of all, you are generalizing Filipinos which in itself is a no-no. Lol 2nd, where are you exactly reading/seeing this ad hominem attacks? In a formal debate? I doubt it. Maybe you have seen such arguments on fb or in games. I'm just saying, perhaps you should look into formal debates in the Philippines. You'd be surprised. 3rd, again with thr generalization lol people can have hobbies, they can like zeinab and be intellectuals at the same time.

You like to put yourself on the pedestal. You severely underestimate the amount of impressive Filipino debaters and people who enjoy engaging them. Not all Filipinoes watch only vlogs. It just shows your lack of different perspective and experience. Your world is too small. You still have yet to experience the world of sensible Filipino youths nowadays. There are many. You just need to carefully observe. If you don't find anyone, the problem is the environment you currently live in. Your view of reality may change if you only broaden your perspective.
