Intel vs AMD vs Arm CPUs. Which is best for servers?

Ғылым және технология

When it comes to server CPUs you could be forgiven for thinking that there’s only two choices - either Intel Xeon or AMD EPYC. Although these two do represent the vast majority of the market, there is a third option - Arm.
This video explains the differences between the three types of server CPU, their strengths and weaknesses and why you should consider Arm CPUs.

Thanks, we've got more videos planned on Arm in the future as this market is developing quite fast with lots of new stuff from multiple manufacturers in the pipeline. - JG

Fact is I can edit 4k videos on $150 smartphone but I need $700+ pc to do the same task as smoothly. Arm for the future!!!

Awesome!👍👍 And what about Amazon's CPUs? Are they similar to IBM Power CPUs that work with their hardware only or are they ARM based?

Glad you found the video useful. Amazon Graviton CPUs are indeed ARM-based, developed in-house by AWS after Amazon bought Annapurna Labs. - JG

Intel and AMD are the producers of the so-called Von-Neumann architecture such as x86, x86-64, x64 and amd64. ARM and the other RISC machines or plattforms - e.g. RISC-V - are computers or machines with the so-called Harvard architecture.

Why don't you differentiate ARMel, ARMhf, ARM, ARM64(also known as AARCH64) and AARCH32?

Yes, why are we talking about it in server context? 2:40 mark should be the end of the video since answer is simple $Money. With better thermal performance and equivalent performance, you get more bang for your bucks and because Apple proved it can beat Intel with ARM chip.

We're talking about Arm in a server context because it also has an important role to play here too. Right now it has tiny market share compared to Intel Xeon and AMD EPYC but there's a lot of potential use cases with Arm would be better in servers too. - JG

X86 Architecture are not valid anymore in bother Server or PC Platforms, rather X64
