I3 beats i7? Smells fishy .sounds like Intel was milking our wallets until ryzen was released.

Intel has been wallet raping since Sandy Bridge and probably before that. Intel smells fishier than a seafood market on a summer day.

it's not "beating" the i7, it's only beating it in single threaded performance. and only by several points. it'll perform slightly better than the current gen i5, don't let intel's marketing fool you.

Sounds like they were a monopoly since AMD has been dead asleep for the last several years... Nature of the beast. AMD is finally relevant again and Intel is pushing back.. competition is great for everyone.

It does clock for clock in single threaded, but in the real world people overclock, so no way 4c/4t is going to be better than 4c/8t in multi-threaded applications or gaming.

But how much will the i3 cost? Intel: "Since the i3s now perform like i7s, we will change the i3s price to the price of the i7 and triple the price of our i7s."

Eman C That's not how it works. The prices will stay the same as they currently are now. $150 for the i3 and $340 for the i7.

Eman C. If an i5 preforms better than the i3 and an i7 preforms better than the i5 and an i9 preforms better than the i7 then AMD is pretty much dead. As long as Intel doesn't jack up the prices.

Argf Price, man, price. Intel still isn't even close to matching AMD's price to performance, and that may not change with coffee lake, as AMD will have updated chips by then too, hopefully with better clockspeeds.

@alan have we all lost the plot? it's only beating it a by a few points in single threaded performance. the current gen i7 has the same single threaded perf as an i5, it's only beating the i5 in games due to hyperthreading, granting higher multi-threaded perf. the new i3 doesn't even come close to i7 in multi-threaded perf, it'll perform slightly better than the current gen i5 only. The title of this video is pure intel shill advertising

I am going to be very very happy. Just because you have an i7 doesn't mean new customers should settle for less to keep you guys happy. WTF is your logic people, technology should always develop. The i7 u have might have been the best in it's day. Are you all so accustomed to intel's slow incremental improvements that you are sighing a big leap?. What if i3 is priced at $200 & is better than last gen i5?. It's great for people who are buying now.

+Brijesh It depends on what i7 OP has, if OP has a skylake or kaby lake i7 than it would make sense for them to be annoyed (especially kaby lake) as it means that had they known about this jump, they could have waited and saved money or gotten more power. And 2 years (or less than 1 year if Kaby lake) is pretty bad if the new CPU's make the old ones obsolete in such a short time span, causing them not to be able to run new software as efficiently (though doubtful new software would change that fast anyway) If OP has something older than skylake though, than it doesn't make sense to complain, as technology should be expected to move along significantly after 3 years (not that it HAS, in the cpu market for ages)

Bro i understand what your saying but guess what im a intel user 100 percent (i know the BS and dirty moves intel has done in the past, belive ive read all the articles and discussions but i just like them for there performance), personally i see ryzen as something lacking in power and efficiency in a lot of areas (not all) but on the other side they have something that intel has never had to dealth with in the past, competition, eversince we can remember AMD is litterally the pussy company that just pushes out outdated and inferior crap every year but after ryzen even intel i3 core cpu's are rumoured to be putting up a shit ton of a fight at a reasonable price, so when i say thx ryzen for stirring up the market i mean it :)

Problem is whats the price? Tthis is a re-refresh of kaby lake and they still use nearly the same architecture. Sky and kaby didn't have good yield rates on the higher end chip thus resulting in a higher price (also because there was no competition until ryzen). Now we are getting the chip we used to get in a higher tier but 1 tier lower. So unless intel accepts lower profits (face it they won't) we are looking at i5 prices for i3 chips and such.

SlavjanA depends on the task. Most games don't use more than 4 threads anyway.

Incorrect, games do benefit from more than 4 threads, if not in averages, then certainly in minimums. It's why the R5 1600 is better than the 7600K for example. It does depend on whether you have a mid-range or high-end GPU, but if you're getting an i7 it's safe to say that you're considering high-end.

Crysis is one game, which is why i used the qualifier "most.". There are games that take advantage of more than 4 threads, but most do not. With the dawn of dx12, more games are starting to be able to use more cores/threads, but this change has been slow.

anyone else notice the seemingly dig at AMD in the naming of this i3? I also wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be a 4 core 8 thread as the fx probably would have appeared as to the OS.

But no one has specifically stated that doom and fallout vr wont work for the rift. It just says its coming out for the vive, and since vive games work on the rift through steam vr and open vr it should work unless they put a block on rift hardware. Really it doesn't make nay sense to block the rift as they are just going to loose half of their potential sales.

Intel lists an 8350U with 4 cores and 8 threads as an i5, why would they take the 8350 number, switch it to a K skew then drop it to i3? Guess my question is how certain are we the 8350k will be marketed as an i3 and not be like Ryzen where the lowest R5 has fewer cores then the other R5's? it would seam weird to me personally to see the low power 8350U listed as an i5 then the Overclockable 8350k listed as an i3.

That i3 is insane, if its single thread performance is that good, it will game really good. I will keep an eye on this, it seems that my brother's ryzen 3 gaming pc will instead be an i3 gaming pc.

TessellatedGuy while killing their own consumer hahaha dont forget if an i3 beats an i7 7700k what do you think to those who just bought that cpu? They may gain new consumer but definitely they would loose brand loyals those who use an i7 feeling that they made a bad purchase, brand loyals are much more important than gaining new consumer, a loyal buyer will recommend their cpu to their friends and families which mean more money for the cpu company, what intel did is a double edge sword yes they show something powerful that might interest new user at the same time they stabbed the old user making them feel like they did a bad purchase

People should have waited for 8th gen like I did. What kind of an idiot not wait for intel's response to amd after ryzen was such a stir up?. It's a well known fact intel was overpricing. Half of amd's success is intel bad practices. Now they are genuinely giving a better bang for the buck & shitheads complain about it too?!. WTF is wrong with you people?

Hmm, 4 cores, 4 threads, the best single-threaded performance and high-end i5-level multi-threaded performance? If the 8350K is priced similarly to the 7350K, it would be a much more compelling buy - perhaps even better than Ryzen 5 or Core i5.
