I've done a little research before making a buy decision. There is too little documentation and community support out there. It seems Intel is only interested in supporting manufacturer and educational institutions. They don't trust the maker community at all. Once you buy this, you can't share experience with a large group of people. You are left alone. Please do more intel! More tutorals, examples and more DIYer friendly development tools please!
Thanks for sharing the video. The steps are nicely articulated.
it's great.... thanks ... nicely explained... the best part is it has the Arduino ide... so it won't feel difficult environment....
Since the Edison + Arduino kit does not come with a power supply (and perhaps none is needed for the initial setup), it would be nice to have a reference to which specific 2.5/5.5 brick one "could" use. Not asking Intel to recommend a 3rd party SKU but any beginner could benefit from further guidance (?V ?A).
Just got mine. I didn't need to flash the Linux image prior to programming the board with the Arduino "blink" program... I just connected my laptop to the J16 USB port and the programming worked straightaway.
Hi Thank you so much for your good tutorial I want to ask about the intel Edison Arduino board. when I powered up, the DS2 will be on first then DS1. So |I have Both LED on. When I tried to upload the Blink program the transfere complete but nothing happened. Really need help. Thank you
i cant seem to find the downloads for the edison... PLEASE HELP!!!
I know this is a new product but I've been salivating waiting for this to arrive only to find out there's very little documentation or videos out there (hopefully that will change soon). The instructions here are very different than the ones on the intel site. My suggestion would be to make more parts to this and go through things like what the arduino board buttons and jumpers do, and why it appears linux is already installed out of the box. Another confusing thing is you have this image you're putting on to that drive, yet I'm not even sure where you got that image. Anyway, just a few extra videos would really help. This seems like it'll be a very useful platform, just could use a little more info from the start. It wasn't hard to get blink working, but interfacing arduino with linux is a big question mark now for me. Guess I just have to explore the examples

No serious dev product should use the Arduino IDE: can't undo much, no autocomplete, no version control, no file explorer view, no refactoring, etc etc etc.

Arduino is the easier option, you can also use the Intel® XDK IoT Edition to code and upload to the devices. Has a blink example.
Can we have support for MAC? Everytime that I try to upload a sketch from Arduino IDE I got the same error message.
just one question, what exactly is this edison thingi? he used an arduino program on it, so does that mean that with edison u cna run an arduino sketch? whats the advantage then? more procession power? more io?
I've set it up and it works fine. My only problem is when I try to setup a web server in the Arduino- IDE and I visit the ip, I get to the Device Informations Page instead of the webpage I created... Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong? I set wifi up with the console as it's shown in the "wifi setup" tutorial. To use it with arduino, do I have to turn it off "in the console" and only connect using arduino? If so, I can't figure out on how to do turn it off...
So 10 months later. I am back to see if the lack of tutorials for the Edison is still a problem. I see nothing has changed. So no Intel Edison for me. Very disappointing. See you next year Intel.

+John Smith You don't see the irony at all in begging for tutorials from a community driven development board while at the same time refusing to become part of the community that helps to develop it, until ofcourse it becomes better developed? Its not just gonna shit code on its own you know ...

Not begging at all, I am pointing out flaws in their business model. If they choose to listen that is up to them. I could care less. My problem is they do not provide BASIC examples of how to make use of all the functionality of the board. So I see nothing of interest or of use here that I cannot find from an existing product. I am not asking them to "shit out Stephen Stahlberg" as you would say. Just some calvin and hobbs. I don't have time for boards with crap documentation videos when there are plenty of other options out there that do make good documentation of their products AND have excellent community tutorials where I do contribute (Pi, Arduino, N.I). So no I could not care less about this product other than to point out my disappointment in the lack of tutorials. And should that change I will have another look and perhaps buy one. It is not the communities responsibility to provide basic examples of the products functionality it is Intels.
What was that red error message showing at the end? Looks like the Blink program didn't get uploaded properly?
were did the Edison image zip file come from

exactly???
Well, which image should I download and burn onto the Edison? Nothing mentioned about that .... :( Help please?
Hi, Arduino IDE compressed file will not extract completely unless you extract it to the root (i.e., c:\ ) of your hard drive. Reason: it contain multiple folders one inside the other which make it too long to be handled (longer than 260) like this one: C:\Users\Mohammed\Desktop\x86\i586-poky-linux-uclibc\usr\src\debug\uclibc\0.9.33+gitAUTOINC+946799cd0ce0c6c803c9cb173a84f4d607bde350-r8.4\git\libpthread ptl\sysdeps\unix\sysv\linux\i386 please rearrange the Arduino IDE file structures so we can use it from our preferred directories. Thanks.
I don't know what can i say for it. But i think ' I love you Intel' will be close enough to tell what i think about it.
Hi can you help us with MAC?
can you make a same tutorial for intel galileo on windows
H sir, if I upload a program to the board. I get an error saying permission denied. Please help me?.
Not enough tutorials to get me interested in this intel.
How hot does the broad get when powered on? it seems it pretty hot.
I couldn't find the usb driver for intel edison !
What is the operating system you using Ardruino on? Is this is Windows ? :D
Kudos
May i know what error is this? i586-poky-linux-g++: error: C:\Users\Student\AppData\Local\Temp\build4108592604653990933.tmp/core.a: No such file or directory Error compiling.

so the question is. why would i use this over a $15 arduino? i'm looking for a developer board that i can use arduino code. but capable of running a camera and streaming the content over the internet, is this capable of that?
When I move the files it says there is not enough space.
good morning your tutorial very good but I am in brazil you can pass a version of your tutorials in portuguese or spanish to understand the details Thank you

always reinventing wheel and getting a square version...:-))
I have followed everything as described and shown, now I am getting an error that says 'permission denied'. I've been trying to fix it....nothing works. Any ideas for fixing this before I decide to take it outside and step on it? Thanks.

I fixed it...I used a Mac. :) Windows started having port conflicts for some strange reason. Cleared it all up by using my Mac. No more issues as of yet. Got Bluetooth working and talking with Android. Your Bluetooth tutorial helped a great deal. Thanks for reply.
nice if we could hearhim

Intel should create an real installer for the IDE+driver+SW for Edison development. Replacing this video with a 2 pages - start up guide instructions.
i wish i could have one :(
