G'day Steve & Teddy Jr., The early i7 reviews didn't show much of an increase from 10th to 11th Gen but it seems the new Architecture has provided more of a boost for the lower core count i5 in some tasks, It will be good to see how the i7 performs using your testing procedures, or maybe it is just something to do with us being upside down or Australia so far ahead of most of the World increasing performance, I know there are people that complain 'But You Didn't test using... (insert what ever Benchmark style)', but I would like to say I'm a fan of Yours & G/N Steve's Benchmark videos & understand there will be some differences, I am happy that you do 'Motherboard Out of the Box' Testing & G/N do their testing using Intel's 'Performance Guidance' setting as we get to see the differences that this can make, especially to Power Consumption, you give us a heads up explaining the settings you use & explain why so we understand the differences & then mention to watch some other benchmarks too so we get the full picture as benchmarking styles can get varied results for different workloads, it really show your honesty & commitment to us.

From the long view, the 5600x is not bad value. AMD is releasing Zen 3+ this autumn and still in the AM4 footprint. So technically, you will be able to upgrade to a 6600x without changing motherboard. AMD will be switching to zen 4 and the AM5 footprint in 2022.

The i5 11400F seems like a fantastic value (if you can actually find it). Only has a 65W TDP unlike the 125W TDP of the K/KF variants, comes with an included cooler (not greaat but should suffice) and since its a locked component, you can just pair it with a cheapo motherboard. Again, all of this is assuming you can find it and at MSRP.

You have to take the amount of wafers you sign up for if the foundry can't (or wont) resell your capacity. Now a couple of utterly strange things happened: 1) Intel kept eating their crayons and sniffing their glue rather than make something neat with it for the first time in their history. 2) Samsung dropped the ball on their 7nm so TSMC became the hottest chick in town over night. 3) Pandemic hit. 4) Console launch during a pandemic. 5) Crypto boom again. You can't call that poor planning. It's unfortunate, yes. It sucks every kind of dogs balls, yes. @@heickelrrx Ok. I can tell that you insist on seeing things your way. Fair enough. And yes, every single fables chip designer would be fucked if their foundry got nuked. Nvidia is one of the few who works with two premiere foundries at the same time, because it is horribly expensive to do so. They need to have two completely separate teams to do that because the NDA is 18 months for both Samsung and TSMC. So yes.. if Korea (Samsung) got nuked there would be no GeForce cards, and if Taiwan got nuked all their data center accelerators and professional cards would be gone. Let me list you some of the companies who only work with one foundry at the time: Apple, Qualcom (makes ARM chips for everyone but Apple and Samsung), Sisco (Worlds largest networking company), Sony, Huawei, Samsung (obviously), Xilinx (Worlds largest FPGA producer. Every highly robotic factory uses Xilinx), and those are just the ones I remember off the top of my head.... AMD is not on the list because they use Global Foundries for their I/O dies and TSMC for their high performance stuff. But obviously if one goes they can't do shit, as their final packaged product contains chips from both. But Global Foundries is not a premier foundry. They have "yester years" technology, but are cheap, and have no NDA to speak of.

It is strange to test these kind of CPUs with the nVidia driver overhead in mind with the 3090 GPU. It would be more suitable IMO to do it with 6900xt regarding the issue. If they were 8 all 8 cores it would be fine with any nVidia GPU. But knowing the driver issue, the CPUs will show their max potential better, for the games. Nice review as always :)

@@Hardwareunboxed He's not entirely wrong in stating that the driver overhead recently brought to light should make you reconsider using GeForce. For instace it might actually show a larger discrepancy between 6 core and 8 core CPUs than it would otherwise with Radeon prompting an unnecessary upsell to an unsuspecting Radeon customer. Another situation is where GeForce could be revealing performance difference due to it creating a CPU bottleneck instead of say engine or RAM bottleneck that would equalize both processors that could also trigger an unnecessary upsell for a lower end GPU buyer, be it nvidia or amd. I'm not saying that this testing setup is invalid or that you should change your testing ASAP. But maybe there is a place and time to make the switch. The combo that becomes especially questionable is high end GeForce for testing low-mid range CPUs, that could create some wtf scenarios.

I know your review didn't show a huge difference in system level power consumption between the 11600K and 5600x, but I wonder how that adds up over the life of the system. It would be interesting to see total cost of ownership estimate comparison between the two processors in a gaming system over the "typical" system life with "typical" system utilization when factoring in the cost of electricity. Also I wonder how the price of the 11th gen series will change over the next month or so. Will they end up drifting further above MSRP?
