Intarsia Cockatoo

Ойын-сауық

My cousin asked me to make a colorful parrot! He chose this cockatoo pattern by Kathy Wise. In this video I make this bird. I used Osage orange, yellow heart, aspen, ebony, holly, aromatic cedar, monkey pod, pine (stained blue), and walnut. I really enjoyed making this cockatoo with all different colors. Thanks for hanging out with me while I worked in the shop!

    WOWOW! Cy, this is gorgeous! I don't know if you have tried this, but I have seen in woodworking videos, where you can put small amount of course salt in between glued pieces preventing them from shifting. I have nor tried this, but thought I would throw it our there!!

  • @Intarsia82

    @Intarsia82

    3 жыл бұрын

    This works well. Use the salt sparingly as only a few crystals are necessary to provide the gritty grip. Small amounts of salt will not affect glue adhesion. The glue is water-based and the salt will eventuslly dissolve.

  • @CysCorner

    @CysCorner

    3 жыл бұрын

    I have heard about salt helping with that, I even have a small salt shaker in the shop but never thought of trying it with intarsia pieces. Also they are from Australia too.... your combining a McCaw colors which are vivid and stunning in life... but they are from central and South America to a bird in nature is white... try maybe using different woods that are different shades of white... I absolutely love the detail you are doing... it makes him just pop.... i hope she loved the piece as much as we did... sorry i was a party p%^per... i just figure you didnt know.... It’s absolutely beautiful! But… it is not a sulphur crested cockatoo. They are white with a lovely yellow (sulphur) crest. I am listening to them right now squawking away in New South Wales, Australia. 😊😊

    Hello, there are different ways to transfer, I like the heat transfer of toner the best. That is what I did here. I have made videos of how to do the different techniques. I'll leave links here. Thanks so much. I get my intarsia patterns from a few different places online. Judy Gale Roberts, Kathy Wise, Bruce Worthington, just look them up and you'll be directed to their patterns. Judy has some free patterns that are great for beginners.. I also use coloring book pages or drawings I think would be fun to make as an intarsia. Have fun and if you need more info send me an email. undeniablycy@gmail.com

    Do you have trouble with that brand of blades breaking extremely fast. I bought some about a year ago and I am going through them faster than the other brands.

    Are you talking the Mofified Geometry blades? I've heard from someone else of them breaking fast but I haven't had that problem. Sorry to hear you're having difficulties, maybe a bad batch?
