THANK. YOU. SO. MUCH. This clarified so much for me. Would you ever consider making a video for holding patterns?

Question: If you're flying in the US, we use the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) (not sure if they use it overseas), and on page 856 of 5-4-5, it includes for APV approaches also "Baro-VNAV and LDA with glidepath"; is there a reason people do not mention these ones? Comment - for LDA you said its 6-12 degrees. But that is SDF. LDA is only 3-6 degrees offset from the runway

Thank you for your question, Well the reason people don't tend to mention the approaches you referred to above is because they are hardly ever used nowadays. Now dont get me wrong people still fly them in certain airports by mostly general aviation, However, Airlines and corporate flying tend to use ILS and RNP most of the time, even some pilots tend to prefer to fly GNSS (RNP) over the conventional ILS. I hope this clarifies your doubt

I have a question, can a plane do an autoland on a rnav aproach, if not, what pilots do on rnav approaches with cat 3 weather????

  • @ATPLStudent

RNP (LPV) approaches can get you as low as 200ft AGL for the time being. Authorities are working on lowering the that DH though. in CAT3 weather you have to fly an ILS CAT2 or 3. if the airport isn't equipped with one then it is a No go.

Excellent Video. Does LP and LP +V come under Non-Precision RNAV Approaches ?

  • @ATPLStudent

Affirmative, Both are Non-Precision, the reason is LP+V ic considered Non-Precision is because the vertical information isn't reliable unlike LPV and ILS.
