INSTAX VS POLAROID

    not sure if this video was shot when it was uploaded, but the reason for the pinkish tint to the polaroid film is the temperature outside. too hot will give you a pink cast and too cold will give a blue green cast. i’ve found in my own experience that 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit is the best operating temperature for polaroid film. this is not to say that shooting year round is impossible, you just need to keep the camera warm or cool depending on the weather. hope this helps anyone who was curious!

    Ok .. my thoughts: ▪︎ ditch the polaroid ▪︎ focus on getting the best out of the Instax. ▪︎ get a cheap Cokin filter holder for square filters. Buy a couple of different Neutral grad filters to hold back the sky. ▪︎ just toward the end you mentioned black & white ? Excellent! Add a yellow filter to the outfit. That's what I would do. 🙂 Thanks, Kevin. 🤝 PS. Glue the filter holder to the front of the camera. Try with tape first, just in case you don't like it. KP.

    To be fair, I'm so glad I went for the Instax. If you look around you can still find cameras like Sq6 or mini 90 neo classic which have controls over exposure, and that exposure issue with the landscapes would not be a problem anymore. I hope Polaroid will be able to make improvements in their formula because from what I see here, it just looks bad, not that nostalgic. It's already looking like it's been in a warm drawer for 10 years. Imagine how it will actually look 10 years from now.

    I loooooove these videos 👏👏👏👏👏 thanks for making it! I’ve been shooting both Polaroid and Instax and what can I say is that Instax film is always consistent. With Polaroid sometimes you have great results and sometimes not so much. I found that with polaroid it depends the edition of the film, for exameple, The Golden i-type edition gives great results at night, specially if you do portraits, while the normal color i-type gives better results during the day. Another thing that I would do is to avoid to take photos from 11 to 4 pm because the sun is on top of you, I always have better results taking photos during the morning or after 5 pm during the famous golden hour. Love your channel and your content 👏👏❤️

    I own a Polaroid Sun 600 and use it a ton. And I’m not like rich or anything I’m 14. My classmates and teachers love it and I’ve even had an instax mini owner ask for a portrait just cuz he liked the look of the Polaroid. To me the feeling of taking a Polaroid picture on a vintage model outweighs the instax. Instax is a great way to sort of get into the hobby but for me Polaroid gets the most aesthetic results. That’s just me though and I’m not bashing instax.

    I own a discontinued instax sq10 and an sx-70, and while it's probably not a fair comparison, I already reach for the instax as it's much more dependable for making the image. the sx-70 has clout and charm to the camera body, but unless you're outside in perfect light, I find that my images are always 50/50 good and bad. Whereas the instax, because I can see the image digitally before it makes the image, I always get good results. That, tied into the price of film, makes it an easy choice. I also have to mention, I typically lug the instant film around during family gatherings and it's a huge hit with the kids. They're following me around the entire event so I'll bring 2-3 packs just for them haha. Otherwise, great video man, and you're right on one thing though, is that when the polaroid hits, it's real good. We shoot film not because it gives us true to life color renditions, but that built in feels and polaroids are packed with them if you can manage to get it to meter correctly lol

    Great video started to jump into polaroid (funny thing the clerk was trying to convince me to get instax). Learn the the button below the viewfinder in the Polaroid now (we both have the same model) if you double tap it you get double the exposure. To me after getting one shot that everyone agreed was prefect felt so good Instax to me seems a lot more point and shoot which is great for some people but I find the more challenging shot on the polaroid and the more unique look it bring I think is worth it and can sometime out shine instax (IMO). Although the biggest thing is it requires a good bit of mastery to get when it comes to polaroid and the formula to the film could still use improvement (alongside 2 more shots).

    I think that I would go for the Polaroid, even if that decision pains me due to the cost... Alas, I think that the point of an instant camera, for me, is its unconventionality, unpredictability, and quirky quality. I could just use my iphone camera if I wanted true accuracy, but I'm looking for something more creative and funnily flimsy. I am also coming from a place of (very slight) experience with the Instax, which I got for Christmas, and took two photos on before it broke (but disregard the broken part, it was super unlucky, and it's just the margin of error that comes with any manufacturer, or it could've been my fault idk). My point was, I didn't enjoy the cooler tonality at all---almost like it cut out all the happiness and comfort. So, actually I was kinda lucky that it broke---now I can get a new one without feeling guilty :) Well, there will always be guilt due to the cost, but less crushingly in this case

  • @TIPSinc01

    @TIPSinc01

    Yeah I think that a lot of people would choose the Polaroid just for that reason. It’s good that there are choices so people can decide for themselves what fits their style! Feel bad for the broken instax though 😔

    Hi! Great video! It's my first time watching your channel, and I love the positive vibe and excellent editing. I just subscribed and look forward to watching more of your videos. I have a bit of constructive criticism for this particular video. As you mentioned in your description, it would have been beneficial to see a literal 'side-by-side comparison' of the results from the Instax SQ1 and the Polaroid Now. Instead of displaying one photo at a time, you could have shown them side by side, making it much easier for viewers, like myself, to compare the results visually.

    Agree that Instax is more reliable. More contrast and better colour reproduction. I find the SQ1 also hits exposure more often than the Polaroid Now. The Polaroid image also tends to be softer. That said, when the Polaroid works it looks amazing, great nostalgic look that is hard to beat.

    Bought my first Polaroid about 3 years ago (Onestep+), the biggest consideration for me was how I might be continuously envious of how huge Polaroid photos were if I had gotten an instax. Shooting where I live, my color photos tend to be a bit on the magenta side as temps around here regularly exceed 35 degrees C (95F). My biggest issue however is the parallax in the viewfinder which tend to make it difficult to frame shots as the actual photo tends to be further away, with the subject off-center, though I hear that's also a problem in the Lomo Instant Square. To solve that problem I bought a refurbished SX-70, pretty excited to get it in a few days.

    Both are gimmicks and prey on people’s nostalgic feelings. Let’s not forget the outrageous price for the picture cartridges. Same dirty strategy companies used for printers, cheap hardware but illegally marked up ink refills. For the price of 5 cartridge refills you can buy one of the new photo printers that uses liquid ink refills and print a 1000+ photos.
