Great to see a player want to be in Toronto and not try and squeeze every dime out of it. Max will continue to be a fan favorite. I'm fine with players wanting a contract that is fair value in relation to the NHL average, but I'm tired of Toronto players that want to set the "high water" mark.

This is great news and sets the standard on what putting the team before me looks like. I dont know how marners camp looks at this kind of signing and says yea, mitch deserves more than 3x what Max is getting. Just hoping this is the first domino of many to fall for a real culture change here in Toronto

I like the signing. He found his groove late in the season and now he can focus on playing hockey and not his next contract. To me Matthews proved he can play with Domi and produce. Marner needs matthews more than matthews needs Marner.

Some players sign with teams that have no State tax and take home more than guys who sign for 11 million. Other guys have fewer options due to the fact that middle contracts in the 5 M range are being fazed out due to the increase in the number of players in the 9~13M range.

Overpay for a guy that couldn’t find a home until he got to play with Matthews. Nobody else was going to give him more than 3

This signing sets the value for Bertuzzi as well, who I'm sure thinks he's worth more, say goodbye.

What I'm willing to hope is he may have kept his deals shorter term in the hopes Toronto would offer him a contract. Whenever a player takes a shorter term or only has one or two years left they are aware they are trade deadline targets so he may have known all along his approach would net him a lot of different teams.

@@collynbertin3260 Quite possible. He did sign a 3 year contract with Arizona, 2 year contract with Montreal, 2 year contract with Columbus, 1 year contract with Chicago and another 1 year contract with Toronto before signing this current 4 year deal.

Worth every dollar. Domi in Marner's absence made better passes to Matthews. His heart is huge. Marner and Tavares you both are why the Leafs suffer in the playoffs. Not worth it to have either of you here long term.

Hopefully Domi & Matthews play the entire season on the same line if this happens Matthews may score over 70 goals we shall see. I glad they resigned Domi. I'd rather have Domi than Bertuzzi if they can only keep one. If Bertuzzi goes elsewhere i would go for Stamkos or Debrusk on short term contracts of course. I like both players more than Bertuzzi. Not sure who else will play on Matthews & Domi's line but i love this Domi signing.

3.75M is good for his contribution. He could be a bargain replacement for Marner. He's not as talented but he's serviceable on a line with Matthews.

OK, but Marner does more than just feed 34. He's the best defensive forward. I don't object to marner being traded, it would just be interesting to see if Treliving can put together a good D corps and still have room for Marner. It would make Dubas look like a hack

If the leafs can make a deep run or two or heaven forbid win a cup, Domi will never have to pay for anything again in TO. He will be loved ! Marner, should take some notes.
