@Harri Kirvesniemi ah cool, if by AI in golden eye you mean the npcs AI, i understand how RNG correlates to AI now, i dont know if i would call that AI though but i also dont know what i would call it or what it is called. Probably i would call it just an algorithm but i dont know, maybe in game industry its AI, anyway thanks for sharing.

@@ivanadriazola1991 there was a few spots in Golden Eye where some runs hinged on a 2 out of 10 chance of an AI running to a certian spot first instead of last, for example the hostages on the boat. Either they make their way to the rescue boat or they wonder the ship for 20 seconds. Another element was a guy dying from an explosion in another level.

Not a speedrunner myself, just put lots of hours into the original Halo trilogy and you start doing stuff like this for fun.

RNG is not truly random, it is pseudo. Technically everything within a loaded environment within a game is predetermined until the player interacts with the surrounding AI to change it's behavior. Scattering people is a form of RNG, cars spawning is a form of RNG but cars driving down the intended path after the spawn location table has been rolled is not RNG, it is technically human error at that point. IE buddy being crushed was indirectly caused by a car spawned from RNG, but did not die because of RNG. That would imply the player has no control over the avatar within the game world as the player would also be bound to a singular path, as all AI until it is interacted with in some way, but obviously that is not so.. being able to move in the the X,Y and more specifically Z axis changes the algorithm constantly, but not for AI with a singular purpose: IE driving down a road until met with a player. The interaction of the AI becomes RNG after the fact, like being terrified of gunshots and driving away in a seemingly random but entirely precomputed path.. which you can then choose to follow and further alter the AI's path by altering the algorithm by moving in close proximity to them, another form of RNG. It's complicated shit, but it's both random and not truly random.

I mean, it might not be RNG, but anyone who thinks that they are controlling such a chaotic system in most games is lying to themselves. There are plenty of times when speedrunners can manipulate the game to control the system to work in his/her/etc. favor, but there are a lot of times when people are just getting lucky. (idk much about that game to be fair, but a good rule of thumb is if most people don't think that it can be controlled in the speedrunning community, it can't be controlled)

@@BenderBendingRodriguezOFFICIAL ; that is not entirely true. There are sources of entropy other than human input to generate random numbers with. Ei the current time could be used to seed randomness, and thus none of it would be repeated. it's implementation dependent.

Well... RNG is radom, and Ai is a set of patterns with a (sometimes) not randomic trigger so... maybe not?

@@sinnerthesinful552 But if the AI has something randomic about it that can't be predicted, it's RNG and you'll likely need some luck to beat it. If there wasn't a single randomized element in the AI, it should be able to be predicted by the player, which isn't "being lucky".
