INSTANT COLOR CORRECTION with Datacolor SpyderCHECKR (Adobe Premiere Pro)

Фильм және анимация

This is the secret to accurately color correcting your video footage in Adobe Premiere Pro in just seconds using the Datacolor SpyderCHECKR (or a similar color card such as the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport) and the Premiere plugin called MBR Color Corrector 3, which automatically reads the color card in your footage and calculating how to correctly color the footage.
If you want to get better at color grading, you first have to master color correction. Always start by color correcting your footage in Premiere or Final Cut or using whatever tools that work for your workflow, then begin the color grading process afterward. If you want truly cinematic footage, you need to start with solid color correction before you get into color grading.
You don't just have to spend a bunch of time in the Lumetri Color panel trying to guess how to correct it. This process will automatically correct your color in seconds just by using the color card as a reference.

    This video was awesome to watch. Very informative. I have a Spiderchecher24 card but have only been using the other side of it to adjust the white balance in the camera. Now after watching this video I could also do this at post edit. I can be more precise at colour correcting my videos. Colour Grading will be the next thing I want to experiment with and see what looks I can come up with. You have great content on here which I'm enjoying. Keep it up.

    I bought that exact card several months back as I've been planning on getting back into content creation. The main reason is I'm hoping it will make it so if I do ever need to use 2 cameras, I have a shot at making them look fairly similar fairly easily. The trickle becomes a stream, and starts to grow. And you never know when you'll hit the video that takes off and then brings attention to your other videos. Don't let the algorithm break you! Just keep at it, keep learning, keep doing the best you can, and eventually the algorithm will stop fighting you and start working with you!

    Even if English is not my native language I could perfectly understood your wonderful video and this make me take the decision to buy this MBR plugin for use in Premiere Pro. For me color grading is a nightmare (my limit) but start a color grading after a right and "perfect" color correction is - in my opinion - the easier and may be best way to start... Thank you again for your video! PD a question, in your opinion if I have to give to a video a special mood, for example a (soft) thriller or (light/soft) horror look, without use a mask for the skin tone (!), would you suggest to: make correct white balance, then color correction with MBR, make some soft color grading (like reduce saturation and make the blacks more deep) and only then, as last point, change the white balance in premiere pro to give a blue-tone (scary tone)? or in your opinion in case of special look (like horror or scary or the opposite like very romantic in a Venetian Gondola, etc) you would not use MBR and work directly changing white balance (in camera or in post) or/and applying for example a Phantom LUT or other kind of LUT without use MBR? considering that with these special look the accuracy of colors is not important? Thanks again and sorry for my English that is not perfect...

    Good questions! I'm still on the trial version, though I'm tempted to buy the full version to be able to download the LUT, which could simplify things since the MBR plugin itself can be a little resource intensive. I usually do shoot in LOG, HLG, or similar, and it does a great job of bringing those flat profiles back to normal.

    Actually, it's been my experience that this will basically convert the log and do the color correction at the same time. • @RealJamesArcher

    @RealJamesArcher

    4 жыл бұрын

    Good question! In some cases, you maybe dealing with footage that has a lot of variation because of how/where/when it was shot. Im these situations, it can make sense to restore it to a common baseline before applying a creative treatment. In other cases, the particular profile or camera you're using might simply.have some uniqueness that's not easily corrected by simple temperature and curve tweaks. I have an action camera, for example, where the flat color profile always looks weird when I try to grade it. Basically, it just gives you a solid starting point to begin grading. now there are definitely cases where you can get away with not doing this. For example, there are some big photography and video KZreadrs who jump straight into grading and are comfortable doing that. It's not quite the same, but they're comfortable with the trade offs of that approach in order to gain back some efficiency.
