Installing Throttlebody in My 2012 VW Jetta 2.5L SE With Code P0122

Doing this install on 2012 VW Jetta 2.5L SE car went into leap mode throwing EPC Engine Light on the dash. Connected My OBD Scanner to the car and had this code P0122 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Low Code. So instead of taking it to dealer and paying and arm and leg decided to do myself. So if anyone is having same issue, Me changing the throttlebody did resolve and fix the issue. Hope this was helpful to anyone with same issue.

Thank you so much for this video! I watched your and another's body shop video to replace my throttle body in the same car. The body shop was using all kinds of tools that I don't have but you were using tools, that I do have. Thank you for saving me time and money!!

Thanks for this. Most helpful tip was how to release the electrical connector. Install pretty easy. I have a short ram intake, so much easier to access everything. BTW: for the naysayers.....if you disconnect the batter while you install, the ECM will self calibrate.....you do not need a VAC-COM. Don't freakout when you start engine and every warning light is lit. As soon as you drive vehicle, they will all disappear. Ohhh some vids showing install on earlier models show coolant hoses going to the TB. The '12 doesn't have these.

First....thanks for reply and sorry about typos. Hey.....I have a crazy notion. I think that maybe these things can gradually fail over time. Assumed due to sudden power loss, it was nearly 'all or none'. I did a search on this and best I could find, is milage could be lowered. (mine did get pretty poor milage...but I drive like an idiot..😆) However, w/ new part car runs better than ever. I have an IE stage one tune. With a lot more torque, always had a lot of midrange punch......now feels like even more. The tune takes redline to 7200 and used to not hit before shift....now it will easily. Any thoughts? My car is easily as quick as a stock GTI of the era. (It also has a GTI suspension and brakes)

You don’t need a vagcom nor do you need to disconnect the battery to do this. This is speaking for a 2012 Passat 2.5 5cyl. The epc light will turn off after cycling on its own. There’s a few ways to get the engine light off; You can take your vehicle to advanced auto parts, auto zone or wherever your local parts place is and they will clear the code free of cost. Or you can cycle your car which is usually driving it and turning it on and off through the day roughly 6-7 times and the engine light will turn off. And if you feel comfortable enough you can disconnect the battery and it will cycle through the checks and clear the check engine. If you have a vagcom on hand already then you can do what the original commenter said. Just trying to save anyone doing this repair some money.

@@Kasejeb I got the disconnect battery tip from someone else online. Besides....never a bad idea to disconnect when doing anything the involves disconnecting/reconnecting wiring. I dunno of the TB can start failing over time, as the car runs better than ever w/ new one. I have an Integrated Engineering Stage one tune, and this car is every bit as quick as stock GTI of the era.

Thanks for this. Just finished trading out mine with the Amazon model you linked to. EPC and Check Engine light were on, and it was in a bit of a limp mode with limited power above 2,000rpm. After changing, first start didn't work but on the 2nd try it fired right up. EPC light went out, but CE light is still hanging around. I'm guessing that it'll clear after a few more run cycles. The re-learn procedure in the comment from THXFXR didn't seem to do anything for me - I never got a 'Bing'. I don't know if it made any difference, but removed the negative cable from my battery while i did the work. Hardest part for me was removing the engine cover (gloves help with this) and dealing with the fuel supply line. Everything else was relatively easy, and I'm not a particularly skilled, experienced or well-equipped car mechanic. I took my time and was very careful to avoid dropping any fasteners or tools. Torx T20 bits got the airbox parts off and a T30 got the throttle body off. You'll want a couple of different nut driver options as mine was a little too long for a couple of screws. Fortunately I was able to improvise. I'd suggest maybe swapping spark plugs out while you're doing this since you'll have the engine cover off anyway. That was pretty darn easy and only took an extra 10-15 minutes.

Not sure. I would look into the P0735 Code and see if maybe another sensor is triggering the car not going into reverse. But it seems like alot going on maybe would take to have looked at by mechanic. Sorry just not sure

My 2013 Passat SE 2.5L had the engine light coming on for weeks at a time then going off for weeks for about a year. Checked the codes and indicated O2 sensor bank2 (rear). Kept driving it and finally the EPC came on - and the limp mode. Being told it's prolly the throttle body TPS causing the O2 sensor to go off? Also told that what causes this TPS fail is the PCV valve - now integrated into the valve cover - that goes bad and allows oil to accumulate inside the throttle body and into the intake manifold.- causing the sensor to eventually fail. PCV valves used to be a $20 item. Now they want like $500 for the valve cover with integrated PCV valve. Have quotes of $2k to replace all this stuff including a $450 estimate just for the throttle body and installation. They're even quoting $460 for the O2 sensor replacement! This is a $30-40 item on AMZN and the Throttle body is $60-90 on same! O2 sensor is literally just ONE bolt holding it into the exhaust pipe and an electrical connection you plug in! Man these guys WAY overcharge,..
