When you decide is time to install a Basketball Hoop at Home, the installation is not too complicated in my opinion as a handyman; I do however recommend you have someone helping you for the heavy lifting part of the service that requires two people.
On this particular Basketball Hoop customer wanted to install, he wanted to go in the Ground at Home; and not mounted on a wall like you see on some homes. To do this we wanted to agree on a spot that had no wires or pipes under the dirt so is easier to dig the hole.
This basketball hoop did not weight much compared to other models, and so the manufacture recommended depth was 2 feet under ground; what I did instead was go 3 feet deep instead though considering that this basketball hoop adjusted up and down on the net side so we took advantage of that feature to go deeper for a stronger hold.

Even though you can go deep about 4 feet to make the post sturdy, I do recommend to also add rocks with cement to harden the foundation; in addition as shown on my video you see that I created a small concrete block around the post to help it see well from ground up.
We could have installed the hoop into the concrete floor, however the customer and I did not want to drill a hole to where it would have complicated the simplicity of the project; instead we decided to add it right next to it however.
We finished the project by adding rocks around the basketball hoop after installation to give the area a nicer look. Installing the top parts was a bit challenging alone and so I had to bring in one of my handyman partners to help out.

Thank you! Cheers!
That footing should be 36" to 48" deep and 2 feet square.

I do agree that some hoops require certain depth. This installation was done based on what we had to work with as to the layout. as well as the requirement of the product used. It was installed as suggested by manufactured.
Instuctions to same goal you installed says 32 inches deep, setting the pole on a masonry block.

anchoring a product, regardless if is a hoop or any kind of post or pole, when cement is used you can go a little less deep if needed due to pipes or roots. but of course going deeper is required when relying only on compacting dirt
Quick question does the wood foundation come off pretty easily from the concrete?
@MasterMindHandyMan

yes. in fact dried concrete do not stick to wood. more so if it was wed. simply pull it.
Aren't you supposed to level the beam? How did you keep it still for 24 hours while cement dries?

Hi. Great question. Sorry for the late reply. I'm working on setting time to manage comments after uploads. Actually my trick to hold the pole in place by the cement dried was to dig a foot deeper so that is used to hold the pole. I would then fill with cement, the other 2 feet plus the portion that reaches the wood; at the end we remove the woodframe and you will see it dried from the ground up; instead of just the section we used for the framing. Doing this method allows the pole to stay in place because is tight by the dirt; and then I add my cement.
Over time, will the pole rust out and eventually break?

hi. great question. not really. the rock like cement is designed to provide airflow. allowing buildup water to evoporate overtime and not keep the ground wet.
we are doing the same thing tomorrow but we don't have a square goal like that. ours is skinny and round. do we just do the same thing make a frame then put the concrete and take the frame off. and to hold the pole straight what would you use

Did you have to anchor it overnight while it dried?

what I did was create the hole in the ground first and then anchored the bottom side of the post which the baseketball hoop came with 2 pieces. anchor piece and the hoop piece. so once the anchor post cured within 24 hours with the cement hole. then I assembled the rest of the hoop
how many bags of cement did you use?
@MasterMindHandyMan

hi. on a spot like this I dropped about 2 bags. i wanted to fill at least 1-2 feet with cement. then the top level with the already present rocks.
Is there any disadvantage to just burying the pole in the ground like this as opposed to using the J-bolts method?

Hi. Great question. Sorry for the late reply. I'm working on setting time to manage comments after uploads. I find it to be later in time, the pole will weaken and begin to come off the ground; using the method I used will create a more permanent outcome.

When installing a basketball hoop, ask the customer what is the practical use, if no dunking is required a basic anchor is good as in this example. However if they plan to play as a pro and dunk please anchor 3 times deeper and wider on cement.
