I suspect the LED in the old optical switch degrades (diminishes is output) to the point where it doesn't emit enough light to trigger the LDR or Photo Transistor on the receiving side.

Hi Bruce, I have a Rockola 100 CD Bubbler that probably needs a new opto cable part#58687-A as I get error message M 01.
