Installing Fiamma F65s Awning on our Promaster 3500

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Update: July 30, 2022- We've been using this awning now for almost 2 year of full-time use and the awning is doing great. When it's raining, we'll crank it out about 3 feet so that our step stays dry. The wall mounts are still working like new and no issues. We've added an extension awning to the outside rail to help with sunlight in early morning sun or sunsets to help reduce the heat.
Let us know in the comments if you'd like to see this setup. We purchased the extension from Fiamma USA in Orlando last Fall 2021.
Thanks so much for watching!!
Fiamma introduced a new model which is the F80. The brackets and installation would be the same as shown in our video.
Installation of a Fiamma F65s 400cm (13’2”)
Titanium Cover and Royal Grey Material
Installation is on a 2018 ProMaster 3500 Extended
We purchased from Fiamma USA www.fiammausa.com
Item #05812E01R
The 400cm awning comes standard with the center rafter that I didn't show in the video.
The wall plates were from Hein at www.impact3d.com or his Ebay store Impactproducts- search for Fiamma Leg Brackets

    We have this on our van. Both ends of the canopy just under the legs had split and come away. I had to remove the canopy completely, strip it down to cut the whole length of damged canopy off. Then I had to replace the internal beading and refix the canopy with glue and 25mm gorilla tape. Put it all back together and it's like new. Quite easy really.

    This is so helpful. I have an electric F65 that I damaged just enough that it needs to be replaced. I have been thinking about switching to the manual version when I replace it. The lower brackets were my biggest unknown. These adhesive brackets look like a great solution. Your video helps me to feel pretty confident about doing this job. Thank you.

    Just installed an F65 on my Travato Promaster. Lining up those roof brackets is very important. I used a taught string line on the bracket extrusions to ensure they were close to perfect. . I was a wee bit off on one as it turns out but the awning went into all three brackets okay. I'm going to add and additional self tapping screw on the bracket that was off a little. Fortunately, my RV is inside and I used the rafters in my shop to rig up a block and tackle system to elevate the awning before placing it in the brackets. Not a job you can do alone! I referred to this video to get the leg mounts ordered and secured. Very helpful!

    Sorry for the delayed response. Great idea using the string. I think everyones van has some irregularities when it comes to roof lug placements and heights. My middle bracket was off slightly but didn't have an impact on the install. Thanks for watching!! I need to do an update video as I've added some toys to the awning.

    I thought I needed help bringing my awning up to the roof but I didn’t. I got behind the van with a ladder and let leverage do the work. Very easy that way.

    Hi Ray- thanks for the great video. Where can I purchase the roof brackets (to mount on lugs)?

  • @CorndogCaravan

    @CorndogCaravan

    I purchased the awning brackets from FiammaUSA but the driver's side lugs I used for my solar rack were from Vantech. I think I got them via ebay. The Vantech brackets are a two piece set so make sure when you order that you're getting the top plate and the undermount. Depending on the roof system you're mounting will determine the length of screws you'll need. Hope that helps.

    FYI y'all, I had to reverse the middle [under] bracket for the three to be aligned. The ridges are not perfectly straight along the distance of my roof. 2500 159'.

    Explain more. The non-extended roof has 4 lugs. When you say you reversed the middle bracket do you mean you moved the middle bracket from lug 2 to lug 3?

    @@CorndogCaravan not sure why I just saw this, sorry! No, I kept those locations the same, but on the middle location I turned the bottom steel piece around ("D" in the manual; the bolts thread up thru it). Functionally there's no difference, but I recall this giving me the necessary room to line up the brackets. Hth

    Unfortunately, can't see any useable shade with the sun at that angle. Consider buying a attachable screen for either the sides or front when the sun is not at its zenith.

    Excellent video. Thanks for sharing. I’m researching awnings to mount to / with / injunction with the DIY roof rack and clips I made for my 2018 Promaster 159 extended. I’ll have to modify whatever I get. It looked like the back of the awning is held in place only with the 3 nuts and bolts you tightened down (needed screwdriver for the nut). Is that correct ? Also, does the front simply rest on the brackets ? Thanks - I’ll probably have other questions as I go.

    The 3 fiamma roof mounts are secured by the cleats on the Promaster roof. The awning has a groove the it fits into and then is secured by a set screw. My unistrut roof rack is secured to the Fiamma awning brackets with 2 or 3 bolts at each of the 3 brackets. The driver side unistrut roof rack is secured to the roof using vantech mounts.

    What was your procedure for getting the awning onto the van with two people? Did you set it on top of the ladders and the lift it onto the brackets?

  • @CorndogCaravan

    @CorndogCaravan

    4 жыл бұрын

    Loaded it from the back of the van. Put towels at the corner to prevent scratching. Lifted the front to the back corner first using a short ladder and pushed forward as much as we could from the ground. We had two ladders but never placed the awning on them as the ladder could tip easily. Once the front was up, we lifted the rear portion of the awning and then took a few steps up the ladder and slide the awning forward as the awning became more horizontal. One person at the front guiding and the person at the rear sliding the awning forward. Having folded towels helps it to slide easy and protect the paint. Hope that helps and makes sense. I had a long straight edge that helped me line up the brackets so that the awning fit into them perfectly. The nervous part was lifting the awning from the roof and onto the brackets. Have the rear ladder at the corner so that your helper can have a line of sight down the length of the awning. The awning has a groove on the bottom that grabs the bracket at the front lip. You may want to test fit it while on the ground so that you understand the fitment.

Haven't had the need to ours much so far as the van is still being built out. I installed the LED awning arms lights a few months back. Let me know if I'm understanding the question correctly.

    Corndog Caravan hey Ray I just meant placement of the pads you got from Hein... Front is lower than the back on your van correct? I'm guessing you picked the lowest spot you could for both.... Just making sure there is no issue with doing that... I can't really see on being the legs are adjustable.

    @@doobiesnax420 I had to trim down the pad in the back as it was a bit to tall. I let him know that he may want to modify his design. Yeah the height differential doesnt make a difference. Some folks will place the front leg vertical and stake to the ground so they don't walk into it when getting out of the door. Just make sure your pads are aligned to the pivot point at the too. If the van isn't level just measure or eyeball it.
