Installing Doors & Windows ... in a Concrete Wall 🪟

With the harsh Michigan winter looming right around the corner we needed to get the doors and windows installed fast. However, installing windows and doors into a concrete wall was new to me. Figuring out how to flash the windows into the concrete block and seal the openings required a bit of research. Luckily I found the perfect flashing tape for the job. SIGA Fentrim is perfect for adhering to concrete, without primer, even in cold temperatures. After getting the windows and doors in place we were able to seal up the gaps around the window opening using DAP No Warp Window & Door Sealant. This makes a great seal while making sure not to put any added pressure on the windows or doors.

Its always a good idea to caulk the window and door flanges. Adds another layer of protection for air and water.

Pressure treated wood is not immune to rot, it is resistant to rot.

8'8" ceiling height? One more course and you could put a golf simulator in the lake house!

Incredible the difference those windows make! How are you going to finish all that concrete? Paint? How far is this place from your real home? Good job

For sure! We are going to put siding all the way down. It’s about 15mins from home.

Excellent. I’m trying to install new windows in the basement. For the wood bucks. Did you pre-assemble the “frame” and then place it, or did you put one pc of wood in at a time. Related, is there any hardware tying the wood buck to the concrete block? Other than the spray foam, did you have to use any other sealant between the buck and the concrete? Just looking for guidance.

I did pre assemble them and then secure them with tapcons. No other sealant
