Installing and Configure VPN-Server on Windows Server 2019 / 2022 | Complete Step By Step Guide👍

Ғылым және технология

In this video, I explain to you step by step how to install and configure VPN-Server on Windows Server 2019, and you can use these steps on Windows Server 2022. The way to set up a VPN server has virtually not changed in many years, which means that the same instructions for configuring a VPN on Windows Server 2019 apply to older versions, including Windows Server 2016, 2012 R2, and earlier. In this guide, I explain to you the steps to set up a VPN server in detail on Windows Server 2019, and I also explain to you how to create users on the server and how to create a physical connection to the VPN server from any computer connected to the Internet.
Typically, organizations use a VPN to extend their private network to allow employees working from home or another remote location to access files and applications, through a public network as if they were directly connected to the company network. In Windows Server 2019, a virtual private network (VPN) is a convenient way to allow users to access resources using an encrypted connection from a remote location and across the Internet.
The steps are simple and you can follow the steps as in the video. I am waiting for any inquiries in the comments.

Thx for your video, I m trying to do the same for my work. But, do I have to open some ports on my router ? some NAT rules ?

Thank you for your comment. Regarding your question, you do not have to open any ports on the router. The features available in Windows Server will forward the connection ports. But keep in mind that I used a local IP address just for testing. In reality, you must work and communicate through a real IP address. Good luck to you . Try it and I will wait for any inquiry from you. We discuss your inquiry together. Thank you again 👍

Hey, I would like some help! I've been struggling with the following: My customers can connect to the VPN, however, they cannot ping one of my server's interfaces. They only ping the interface that is created within the VPN pool. So, if my server has an interface configured in the 192.168.20.x network, and I configured our VPN pool at the 192.168.10.x network, our customer can only ping the 192.168.10.x address. Aren't those interfaces internally routed? Why my customers can only ping the VPN address?

While routing and access is active i cant ping through (from pc to server though can still ping from server to pc) although when i disable it i can ping both ends from each others. (that said vpn also does not connect) this is also made simplified in local network that has internet access. Any advice on why that is ? (ive had working vpn on lan but not wan before but after including routing and doing the steps you provided i cant access my vpn server through nether now) (ive also disabled firewall when testing just in case there was something i forgot to let through)

Do you need active directory for that or you could setup a local user?

  • @DOITMOSTAFAAHMED

Yes, you need Active Directory in order to create a user on it and give this user the authority to access and connect through the VPN. Thank you for your comment, and I await any further inquiries, sir. Good luck to you 🤍🤍

do you need wan network to do VPN ?

Hello Rana, the VPN server needs a real IP, so that you can connect to it from any remote computer. But it does not require a WAN network. I just tried with a local IP just for the experience. But for actual work, there must be a real IP, or as it is called, static IP address. I hope that the information is understandable to you. Thank you for commenting. Don't hesitate to ask about anything else. Sorry for the delay in a reply . Thank you again 🤍👍
