You can take count of hours using fuel consumption. In kart racing they do this :)

Hi Rudy. You did well. 1 note for future reference. You will want enough slack wire to change out the sparkplug easily tucked under the panel.

if you use non ethanol you can keep gas in the tank. if not then you gotta use some stabil or seafoam or some such. that being said we run all of our equipment dry before storing them in our out buildings. i've had to buy a few carb kits because i didn't run them dry. so we been doin that for a few years now with no problems. except for other things like tires and batteries or some such. but no issues with our gennys. but as always good info sir.

I have gas in my generators gas tank that's like two years old do you recommend that I dump the old fuel out of it before I try to get it going again or should I just try starting it on that two year old fuel? It was non ethanol gas that I filled it up with a little over 2 years ago.

@@chivosadventures8171 you probably ok. the carb would already have issues by now IF it was going to. but you may wanna pull like half or it out and put some fresh in it or you could fire it up and do a dry run on how you would do things if the power went out and see how well both you (as well as your family if you have one) and your equipment performs. think of it as a fire drill at work or school. it helps you get an idea of what can happen. you can learn some very valuable lessons by shuttin down the power in your home. i don't mean to insult you, but in case you don't know you only got like four hours or so for the items in your frig. just a heads up. one of the biggest things you will find out is how long that tank of fuel will last when you put a load on it. and the second is how dependent we are on the current comin through the wires. have fun.

@@scottanddebranelson8419 Yeah but as I failed to mention that generator has not been started in over two years, and thank you we had a power outage that lasted over three weeks due to an ice storm a few years ago and I have three other generators that I normally run on a regular basis. It's just that particular one that I'm worried about since it hasn't been started in so long so im not sure if I should dump the gas out of it or if I should just try to start it on that very old fuel. I did drain the carburetor through the hose with the screw you unscrew on the carburetor before storing it in my garage.

@@chivosadventures8171oh wow 3 weeks. well you sure got enough experience and can most assuredly skip the whole experiment with the power outage scenario. and since you drained the carb you are definitely ok in that regard. and i really think the gas would be ok but i'd use it this spring if not in the genny then in something else and you could mix it with some fresher fuel and you should be ok. i would be ok with doin that in my machines. and from what i've seen in my research on the subject everyone i've read or watched said 2 year old non ethanol is legit still after two years. have a good one.

Been fully off grid for 17 years! I own 9 generators! My “ go to” generator is the Coleman powermate 3850 watts. I have twins of this generator with extra brushes! Brushes CAN melt down! Usually the fail issue. Just adding my experience. Also I utilize duralube in oil and have found it is worth its weight in silver! THAT MAGNETIC PLUG I DIDNT KNOW ABOUT! Thanks AP!!!!

What an excellent demonstration and information I didn't have. In all my years, I've never changed my generators oil. I had no idea I was supposed to do that. Luckily, I've never burned up an engine. It's funny because I'm OCD about changing my trucks' oil every 3000 miles or 6 months.

Thank you so much for this. I have three generators sitting here that do not run. I gave two 5500 generac's to my son-in-law that fixed them up and sold them. We only use the big ones 4 the well pump and the washer. My little ones are only used to run a lamp a TV that we only watch DVDs on maybe once a month and the lamp. Mostly used for recharging things. I buy expensive gas without ethanol now I don't have to anymore. Thank you so much for this information you don't know how much it is appreciated. Tell Victor hi :-)

convert Almost ANY generator to a dual-fuel or tri-fuel generator. Get a conversion kit from Amazon or US Carburation! propane can be refueled without need for engine cool down as with gasoline sets.

Done 6 of these conersions on older gens. Be aware when on propane measure the AC output and if needed adjust the throttle or governor. If you have a gem with electronic controls likely ok but check any way.

HEAvy Metal' if the sun don't shine, you have no power, During the Texas mess. / I lived in MD. My heat pump froze, i set up my blue etti with two solar panels, 500watts input, time 9:00am until 4:00pm, it was cloudy the entire time. The blue etti was not charged. Lessons learned? Don't use a humidifier, that puts out white dust, it clogges the house air filters and causes high heat. And have a back up generator. Purchased a EU2200i the next day. No Sun, No solar power! Thank God and extra air filters. changed filter and half an hour later, heat pump was purring like a cat. "BLAck Metal....Venom.

Had to look up what a 'heat pump' is...it's amazing how unsustainable a common house or apartment is in an emergency, by design. We need to rethink conventional building design. Hellz yeah Venom...
