    Thanks for the video mate, really helped me with my install, especially the fuse part. If you don't want to route the sensor through the wheel well you can route it though a grommet on the passenger side which goes into the passenger footwell

    With your Oil Temp Gauge setup in the drain plug, do you have to remove the sensor for every oil change now? I'm considering getting the same setup for my 14 STI. Is removing the sensor and using a deep socket to remove the drain plug all you have to do for oil changes?

    have been wanting to put these AEM gauges in my car for ever. Lately I have been worried about the many negative reviews I found about the afr gauge. People stating that AEM uses faulty Bosch sensors and that about half of the sold gauges and sensors don't work to begin with, or fail within weeks/months. Since you already fitted them 2 years ago, can you say something intelligent about the quality and life span?

    Thanks for making this video, I will use this as a reference when installing my afr and oil pressure gauge. Do I need the sending unit kit for the oil pressure? or I can go direct to the aftermarket pressure sensor? Did you have to disconnect the positive terminal on the battery as well?

  • @BeeAboveAverage

    @BeeAboveAverage

    2 жыл бұрын

    I would disconnect the battery so you don’t have any sparks anywhere when working around oil or in the engine bay, and as for the sending unit kit I would recommend it because the sensor is big and might have trouble with clearance without it.

    Pro tip: Never let the wideband gauge heat up the sensor, before starting the engine. That is what kills most WB sensors. They are ceramic, internally. And, they "warm up" to about 1250°F ( glowing red hot ). The initial blast of cold start-up exhaust is like throwing cold water on a hot windshield. The cracks form and spread in the ceramic. The sensors lose accuracy, flake out, then die. :(

  • @lordandprotector

    @lordandprotector

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Supbro1776 The wideband sensors are made ( internally) of ceramic. They have an electric heater in them, that raises the sensor temperature to about 1200°F. As soon as the gauge is turned on, it uses the heater to get the sensor temperature up to that temp. If you start the engine , when the sensor is already hot, you will crack the sensor's ceramic element, by hitting it with a rush of (relatively) cold/wet exhaust air. Eventually, the cracks grow and multiply, and, hit something important. So, don;t let the gauge sit there, heating up the sensor, before starting the engine.

    Hey mate I notice the gauges flickering. SO like at 37:31 they seem nice and stable but then at about 37:40 they start flickering. Why are they doing that? it seems like that would be annoying? Also, do they dim nicely at night? I currently have a Defi Boost gauge and 2 prosport gauges mounted to my pillar. At night however, I get blinded by the lights especially when taking a right turn (RHD car) as the Prosport only dim like 15% vs my defi which dims nicely at 50% at night. Do these dim nicely at night? Do they annoy you in the pillar position at night?

  • @BeeAboveAverage

    @BeeAboveAverage

    2 жыл бұрын

    The flickering is only visible on camera because the shutter speed is not matching the frequency of the LEDs on the gauges. In person they do not flicker. As for the dimming feature, there was a wire that was needed to be connected for the auto dimming to be enabled but I never did it because I didn’t care for having them dim. As of now I don’t mind having them be bright like they are, and I don’t think it bothers me much at night. I like how the pillar setup looks and it’s not in the way of driving for me. I’m really digging the setup thus far. Hope this helps you!
